If you wanted to buy or sell a used boat, where would you go first?

Boatrader online is where I found my boat. It works great.

Too easy to use boattraderonline.com as a starting place. I was watching everyday for a while.
Traderonline is a great place along with OCautotrader.com. But, I think you should also get the OC Boat Trader magazine every thursday if you are serious. Reason being- Many of the OC people buy sweet boat but live in OC, therefore, they rarely have the time or the money to go to the river a bunch. Not me, I will drain the bank account to go boating. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

If any of you were selling a boat, would you list on boattraderonline first, only, or would you list there in addition to other sites you find on the web?

In the case of my STV, I found it for sale on an STV site, and saw it on Scream & Fly.com. Look for sites for that make of boat as well.

Yea I would most likely list it in the boattrader 1st , then maybe see if I could put it at the dealer I was buying the new one from.

What if I created a site just for hot boats?

Didn't you already do that? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I agree with waterndog, I would first put it in boattrader and talk to the place I'm buying the new one from see what they could do for me, and a couple other publications and websites to cover a lot of ground. Â*Then I'd go put a BIG "for sale" sticker on the sides of the boat, get a bunch of strippers to ride with me (to get attention to the boat) and cruise the channel all day long!!http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/cool/cool08.gif Â*Well, maybe not talk to the dealer! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well, if it was an Essex, I'd look for an Essex site. I started an STV site for my type of boat. That would be the second place I would look...sites for that manufacturer of boat.

Actually I was thinking hotboatsforsale.net (since I own it). There's a lot of competition, I'm just trying to figure out what would set me apart or make me different.
Thanks to everyone for the input.

Well, I wish I could answer this Greg. I don't really know what the answer is right now. I guess I just try to think what do I want when I try to sell something; I want to sell it fast, I want to get the most money I can. I guess you can even break down the 1st part; sell it fast. To do that you need:
- a highly visible ad
- a visibly apealing ad
- user friendly search features
- of course a desirable product at a desirable price
I just put my Dad's truck in the truck trader (publication) which I guess has the highest turnaround for publications, but it seems to me it could be so much better. They say it's too expensive to do color ads. His truck (like many boats) is VERY clean. The red paint is so glossy, but you can't see that in black and white. That is one of the huge benefits of the internet, everything is color. The only negative is you don't have a site sitting out front of a car wash where everyone can pick it up and read. You have to search.
hotboatsforsale.com could be a very popular site if you can provide these features and somehow get the name recognized and creditable. If there is anything we can do, holla'!!
Oh yeah, I know I'm hung up on this streaming video stuff, but I might like to see AND hear the boat. Maybe an optional vid. clip of the boat, sort of like the promo. vids some manufacturers put out. Just like 15 sec. of the boat inside and out and cruising. Just throwing stuff out, thinking out loud.
