I had a very similar story with a new 94 f-150. Factory probs, dealer probs, implied violence, mechanics using and crashing it, etc. I won over $20,000 after a two year lawsuit. These "big wig" a%$#oles don't think anyone will challenge them, especially over the course of a 1-2 year lawsuit. As a builder, I'm definitely not litigious by nature, but he needs to file suit against this snake oil salesman...

If all of these stories are true (and there are quite a few so I assume they are), what a f**king PRICK that Ron Moyes sounds like. I could never imagine talking to my customers like that, no matter how much money they are spending, let alone over $100K !!!!!!!! You're gonna threaten ME ?!?!?!?!!! Oh no you don't mother f**ker!!!! I'll snap a picture of this Matt Blair character when I go on Friday if he's there. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Should be back up in 5 hours or so... at least that's what they're saying. But remember what happened last time. 2 days later. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Actually they did delete it. They said it was "closed for legal reasons" I posted a WTF? under the Sandbar forum, Check it out and lets see what kind of answer we get? Sounds like Sleek/Magic threatened to pull their advertizing if I had to guess.

that blows! Can't handle the truth.
That is horseshit. I dont know how that guy could put up with the crappy service then have some punk kid threaten him at the boat show. It would be pretty tough to sell boats while you are spitting out teeth I think.

Well, I sent the Hot Boat webmaster an e-mail. We'll see what his reply is, I hate to say it but now days, you can get sued for about anything.

I followed this thread for the last couple of days. Really sucks how things went down. I still believe that there could be two sides to this story, and I still heard only one side. There are a couple of ways to avoid some of the problems these guys had. I heard good things about the Phoenix store. Maybe I will just buy from them to avoid the A-hole owner. Or buy used, and avoid the factory all together. I just wish there was some competition for this boat. The only other comparable builder is Conquest i believe, and I just do not like their seating arangement. Who knows, maybe when I will be ready, there maybe someone else out there.
Then again, I love my Cole. It is a great boat, I would just like to supersize for the bigger lakes.

If there's any way I can even get near the ballpark to afford a 29 Magnitude from Shickwave, then I'll definitely look at those some day! I've heard nothing but good about Shockwave. I really am starting to wonder about Sleek/Magic http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Outcold,
Have you asked Keith Sayre about the seeting arrangement and if it can be changed. They will sometimes re-arranged a little for you. But, I am a real advocate of getting a quality used boat. Especially, from us California guys that dont make it out to the lake as much as you LV a-holes. There are plenty of deals out there.
Seriously, talk to Keith. He sure knows the deals out there. He even guided me to a deal that wasnt his. It was another dealer all together. Cool dude.
B-Rad502
02-19-2003, 05:45 AM
Also, I'd be willing to bet that Keith would probably love to sell you a Conquest versus a Magic! He would probably get you a deal really close in price??
Personally, Magic scares me right now. But, that is me. All of these horror stories have made me a little tentative on Magic Boats.

My wife works for a law firm and you can't believe what people and companies sue over. Hot Boat could have been liable for posting the thread though as a neutral host it would be dubious. Except....you can never tell how a judge or jury might decide. By the time all is said and done, huge legal fees are spent just to defend a lawsuit. Since Magic/Sleekcraft chose not to respond (probably on the advice of legal counsel) they chose the "CS" or coward's way of stopping the bad publicity - threaten legal action.
The bottom line is...choose a quality bulider and you don't have to worry about this kind of crap occurring. As a builder or other supplier of consumer products, provide excellent service because people do talk and you're business will suffer if you don't do the right thing.

Thor, I have talked to Keith. He said it would cost 50k to make a new mold to redo tho top. And that they build & sell every deck boat they can every year, so it does not make sense to make a new mold. And I would have to agree with him on that. Keith seems like a great person, and I would like to deal with him if possible.I have never heard a bad thing about the guy. Unlike you. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I can just not get over the seating arrangment on the Conquest. It is not that big of a deal to me because I know that it is a while away, and a lot can change by then.

The seating arrangement is the one thing I always hear that no one really likes about the Conquest deckboat. Great boat, the lines are awesome, but that side by side seating is, shall we say, gay.
I think Advantage did a pretty good job on the seating arrangement in their new 28 Victory, side by side but with some room to move. I have yet to see it up close, only pictures in Hot Boat, but it looks pretty functional. Would be weird having the controls on my left side though.

well as usual for me, i'm a day late and a dollar short. so can someone give me the readers digest version of what you guys are talking about? i take it someone bought a magic, got shafted, and some punk at a boat show threatened to kick his ass??? and can you be the slightest bit suprised that Hotboat pulled the thread?? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

you pretty much got it. There have been a few cases where "new" boats were brought in for warranty work very shortly after delivery, Magic took a very long time, was not very nice, never fixed the problem (the boats were brought back for the same/another problem more than once), and the owner pretty much tells them to f-off !! or when they call to see if there boat is done are told to quit calling, don't be a cry baby, etc.
My problem is I would snap the first time I was treated like that, drive to the shop, snatch that little f**ker from behind his desk and beat the s**t out of him, then to have some little salesman threaten to take of it at Havasu?? I'd have dropped him right there. Why wait for Havasu?? But then I'd have lawsuits against me, so.............

I'll try to repeat the story. This guy buys a $112,000 Magic boat. It took them months longer than promised to deliver the boat, several lies later. The guy had mechanical problems right away: oil leaks, etc. In the shop way more than on the lake. When he had about 8 hours on the boat, he scattered the outdrive. Magic's "ace" mechanic said that the dude's driving habits caused the broken drive! Magic's owner told this guy he stands behind his mechanic's judgment...In other words, Tough Shit. The guy paid some one else to fix it who said the the outdrive was assembled incorrectly in the first place. Still no help from Magic. Oh yeah, the guy had given a specific paint design to Magic with flames, etc. He said the paint colors were inconsistent, the flames looked like, I think he said bamboo or something other than flames, and where he called specifically for 1/4" stripes, he got 1/2". They "tried" to fix the paint three times over several weeks and after the last unsuccessful attempt, the Magic owner said that he was done working on the boat. This poor guy then took a copy of his "diary" of this nightmare and began passing it out at the boat show when one of the Magic salesmen threatened him with violence. I'm sure I missed something, but that's the gist. I'M JUST RECOUNTING THE STORY...I HAVE NO FIRSTHAND KNOWLEDGE OF ANY OF THIS BEING TRUE....legal disclaimer!!!
HOLY F#&@*ING $HI%!!!! i'm right there with you on this one RL!! i'll feel terrible for the guy. i wouldn't take that kind of treatment if i spent $112 let along $112,000 http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
I think I saw the salesman at the Boat show. If it the guy I am thinking of, he was hanging on this 28' Magic all day spouting about how his own 'blown' version would do well over 100 mph, and how he rules havasu.
I would have opened up a can on that punk right at the Magic booth, then started yelling about my boat problems, then pulled my rig into the convention center, hooked up the Magic on the floor, pulled out, parked in the lot, then come back and finish that little punk off.
Wheeew.

you are definitely right about the word of mouth thing. i'm sure they will loose a ton of business over this. when you are a custom boat manufacturer i would think that every sale would count. when you are talking an automaker, like ford or GM, they can handle a few pissed off customers. i wouldn't think it would take to many customers taking their $112,000 checks to another company to make a dent in their bottom line.
