Sunday morning we decided to fuel up the boat and head to the lake. Everything was going great, we got the fuel in the boat ($85.56 bill) started to head to the lake and the wife said she forgot something at home. So we turned around and went to the house the wife got what she needed and once again we were off...I thought I put the truck in drive and stepped on the pedal and NOTHING!!! Once the truck got to 1500 RPMs it started moving. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif .I unhooked the boat and found that the truck will work in Reverse and First. The truck is a 97 F350 Crew Cab with a 7.3 Power Stroke diesel. Please help...does anyone know much about Trannys and/or have a code reader that I can rent from you. The truck has a shift sensor on it that I feel is the problem but need the code reader to make sure.

Did it set a check-engine light? Have you checked the fluid level? How long since your last service? How many miles on the trans since new/last rebuild? Will it go in MANUAL 1st gear differently than 1st gear with the shifter in D?

I have a F250 V10, and last season on my way home from parker, I was at a stop light. Proceeded slowly to pull away and I thought I was hit from behind as the truck made a big BANG! Then I heard parts rolling around, and further the truck would not shift into second. Luckly, I was 2 miles from home. As I tried to back the boat in the driveway, the reverese gear broke, and parts could be heard rolling around. Tow truck had to take the truck to the dealer. To find out all preassure plates were busted, and lucky for warranty, otherwise 1500.00 in damage. Out of warranty now, but the truck seems to running great. The dealer said this was unusual for a SDF250....... http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif

The truck has 152,000 miles the last service was at 20,000 miles. The Check Engine light is on and if I put it in manual first (1) it moves fine. But if I put it in Drive (D) it is slipping and barely moves. I did check the fluids they seem to be fine. The other thing that happened that is really odd is the dash fuse blew when tiring to get the truck in the driveway. I looked and the fuse (10 amp) says it is for the dash gauges and electric shift.

That's pretty impressive, a truck that goes 132,000 miles without service and finally breaks http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Think of all the money you saved in oil changes and such http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Make sure you tell them you haven't serviced the truck in 132,000 miles - you might get some kind of a prize or something http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Is strange as it may sound, you may have a short on the trailer. Unplug the trailer and replace whatever fuse that blew.
My trailer blew a fuse on our Linclon Blackwood and it did all knids of strange things, until I traced it out.

The forward clutch pack is toast. There is another element (a band I think) applied when you pick manual 1st instead of drive. Time for a rebuild. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I would do the job myself but without the truck I have no way of picking up the other tranny.I don't think it will fit in the Mustang...lol

Let's see, so that's 2287$. BUT, you saved on 33 oil changes at about 25$ (130,000 miles divided by every 4,000 miles) so that's $825 +miscellaneous other parts like air filters and other services - let's say 500$ for that, so you saved about $1325 meaning the real net cost to you of the rebuild is only about $962 HOWEVER, you had the time value of money working for you hopefully, so let's say you had that $$1325 invested at 5% for over roughly 6 years (guessing you drive about 20K mi. a year) it would actually have had a net benefit to you of $1775 thus reducing the real cost of the rebuild to a net $511! A DEAL NO ONE COULD REFUSE http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Last night I pulled the pan off of the Tranny. What I found was a clogged filter and an inch to inch and a half of nasty slime. I cleaned the pan, put the new filter in, put the pan on filled it up with fluid and she seems to be good as new. I am still going to have her checked out to make sure. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
