Is anyone going to the Arizona Hot Boat event in april?

LakeRacer

I'll be there! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Don't forget, we also have one at Lake Mead, May 17th. Posters and flyers are all over town. I'll also be at the Vegas boat show giving out more information. I should also have our first issue of Extreme Boats Magazine at the Vegas show also.

You can stop by West Marine, Boaters World, AdvantEdge Marine, Offshore Marine, Dunsmore Marine, All Seasons Marine, Lake Mead Marina, and Audio Excellence to pick up registration flyers for the Sinnin' & Grinnin' Poker Run.

Hey Art, do you know why there was never a response back to my post and HavasuJim on the increased cost of the run on the EBA board? Mike Murphy said, "You will find allot of positive changes this year at all of our runs but those changes do cost money"

I just asked what were those changes? We were kicking around making the run if I could swing my schedule and was curious what the price included besides a different dinner?

I post here, because I don't think anyone I wrote to on the EBA board responds that often, since I asked 10 days ago, and sent both Mike Murphy and Jim an e-mail.

Thanks but no thanks....aint no room for us little boats any way, I'll save the 175 bucks and get another weekend of boating in someplace else http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Craig,
Sorry to it took so long to answer your question. Jim and Mike M. have been out of town the last couple weeks so they haven't had alot of time to answer.

It went up $25 ($175 for members.) $175 isn't chicken scratch but neither is it beyond reason. Especially considering that most poker runs will charge $300, $400, $500 and more. For $175 you get 2 dinners, 2 t-shirts, and 1 poker hand.

Three things come to mind for the price increase.
1) Our expenses have gone up (Nautical, tent rentals, etc.)
2) We are catering the food (outside source instead of the Nautical.)
3) We have a new audio and video system that will allow us to show large screen videos of past poker runs, and raw footage of the event itself. This will be shown at the Friday registration party and also at the dinner. No more crackly PA system that kept giving me annoying feedback.

Donnie,
If $175 is too expensive then you better return that Larry Peto motor http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Well Art you are right about that Larry motor http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

My concern is that the first two runs were 45$ then it went to 65$ ( don't know what the last one was)and these included just about everything you mentioned http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif So basically you telling me that it the prices have gone up that much in the last year or so???

With me its not about the money but the VALUE for the money spent http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif you are right the New York run and some of those other are very expensive....but most of those guys are running half a million dollar boats http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif money is not much of a concern.

The poker runs have allways been a great time and I'm sure they will continue to be no matter what the cost http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
One thing is for sure, boating is not getting any cheaper, wether your dealing with Peto or Bergeron or any body!!!

I'll get off the soap box now http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

see ya soon

Donnie,
For the last two years it has been $150. This has been a package price. Prior to our packaging the poker run, it was ala carte. Even then, when all options were added up for most of the poker runners it reached $150 and beyond. So no, we are not gouging everyone and constantly raising the prices. Our first year registration was $65 and it didn't include anything. When you added in the options for two people and one poker hand, its the same as it has been for the last two years.

Art,
I never did say you guys were gouging anyone...and I do stand corrected on the prices for the last year,as I did not pay to run...I volunteered my boat and time to help you guys(except for the last run).
It just seems like sense this has become your "business" and not a non profit activity, prices have gone up.
We were just trying to find out what we are getting for the money we are paying you guys.

Now if you decide to promote a run for the smaller boats, then the value has just increased.

It always has been a business. And I just explained to you that we've kept our prices stable for the last several years. If we didn't provide alot of VALUE FOR THE BUCK then our poker runs wouldn't routinely draw in excess of 160 boats at each event, from all over the country.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Now if you decide to promote a run for the smaller boats,then the value has just increased.[/QUOTE]<span id='postcolor'>
We are producing a poker run for the smaller boats. The Sinnin' and Grinnin' at Lake Mead will have a short course for the smaller boats (in the lower basin) and a long course for the larger faster boats (going to the upper basin.) This will be your chance! We just increased the value for you.

Art, I guess that adding everything together is a good comparison. I've just liked the ala carte thing. The first two AHBA poker runs, we had so many comment cards saying how great it was to be able to come out and only drop $100 on the run. But, given the constant and increasing particpation you're seeing, most folks don't seem to mind. In the beginning, we made enough to pay our rooms, gas and meals at the poker runs, and that was fine for me. You, Jim and Mike wanted to go the next step, a for profit business and on to bigger and better things. That's cool, too much work for me http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Thanks for the reply. I did use Jims e-mail that he checks wherever he is. Mike Murphy, I've written personally several times to no avail. I was starting to think it was like old times, "Craig's just asking questions to stir up s*#t, ignore his questions"

NASTY JORDY, JUST NASTY - YOUR'S IS A COMIN', I'M JUST WAITING MY BOATING BROTHER http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif hehe

The RRX run was a good event, it was 100$. Â*The fact is this sh!t costs a ton of money, whether you're throwing it, or participating in it. Â*Imagine what it's going to cost to fill up your rides this summer $$$$$$$$$$!

I would go if I had the dough and the wifee wasn't prego with twins due close to then. Â*I'm just a tag-along for the BETA event, unless I might be able to get a friend to kick it for the day. Â*This sucks! Boating is more fun with my wife http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif yep, it's true http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif the wifee is fun to hang with on the boat (love her for that one for sure

http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif )

How many boats are you expecting for this one Art? Â*That's really cool that you have a big boat and small boat course - where do you draw the line? Â*Can I win by cheating http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif If KevinMcD's goin' I'll pull his bilge plug via scuba gear before takeoff http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Neither one of those were any of my doing. I just rounded them up and deposited them in the right place for a "Porker Run." http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Besides, I seem to get mine on a regular basis on some of the other boards. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I'd like to see at least a hundred boats. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think we'll draw the line at 25ft. However, if someone has a 25ft rocket and they want to mix it up with the big boys...we'll let them. The lower basin is big enough that smaller boats should be able to spread out and avoid the washing machine affect that Lake Havasu has going down to the Springs.

We'll have three starts:
Big Boys over 85mph (upper basin)
Big Boys 65-85mph (upper basin)
Small Boat - all speeds (lower basin)

I'm gonna come watch the send off, but BBSP is my event that weekend in Havasu.

Art, since you guys are now doing the Extreme Mag, and seem to be really putting some effort into the smaller- and sometimes outboard powered- rigs, how about a poker run for boats of like 22' and under? I've not done a poker run yet, but I can only imagine what Havasu or any big lake is like on a weekend with these big boats all going for it.

Hell, a windy day at Havasu is a challenge for my 19 footer. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Art I run a 32' 80 + mph twin. you may think you have it all but you have knocked me out of the running. have you looked at the price of gas, hotel rooms, launch and docking fees. If we were to go to your event we would be close to $1,000 dollars for the weekend. I dont appreciate the attitude of the big boys as I am one and still cant afford your $250 price tag for my better half and myself just to enter. Does the term bite come into play here?http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif?? Have fun on your business venture but you have excluded a lot of great people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cracy,
If you're looking at the Sinnin' & Grinnin', it's $175 for members and $225 for non-members. Right now for Heat Wave it's $225. Yes we have looked at the prices for everything and we offer one of the best packages available. If you think ours "bites", wait until you look at some of the others that offer as much as we do. We're not forcing you to enter our event. In fact you can try SCOPE, Poker Runs West, Jokers Wild, or any of the many others that are out there.

Keith,
Thanks for the thoughts. We have talked about doing a poker run for the smaller boats. We definitely understand your concern. With regard to the size of boats, we aren't exclusionary. Unfortunately the big boats show up and you guys have a tough time on the water. And like you said, the wind could kick up and you'd be SOL. One of these days I hope we have an answer for you.

What about Sinnin' & Grinnin'? Would the lower basin work for you? Wouldn't the wide open space in the lower basin keep the amount of washboard waves and wakes down to a minimum? Then all you'd have to worry about is the wind http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Actually, that is the best shot at it I've seen yet...just happens to coincide with the Silver State Classic car race that I help run, so I won't be around that weekend.
