I saw an ad in Hot Boat a while ago saying they would introduce the 27 V and 28 Cat soon. Does anyone know if they are still planning on doing that?
their 24' cat is actually splashed from a 28' cat, they cut 4 feet off. So, the new 28' will probably look very similar to the current 24'.

I have no idea. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif
i heard the same thing and if i remember right they were both supposed to out this year. but i haven't seen anything official or even any spy pics yet. they're 30 looks pretty nice but it too looks like a stretched 24. it has a ton of room under the deck!

You would think that if it were going to be out this year we would have heard some gossip by now, but who knows. I think it would by sweet, and would certainly be on my short list. The 24 is a tad too small, and the 30 is a tad too big. Is that true THOR , they just cut 4 feet off of a 28? Sounds funny.

What boat did they splash?
yeah, what boat did they use? i've never seen another hull that looked anything like an htm. although, i guess the shape of the deck wouldn't much matter huh? DUH!!! sometimes i would swear there's a turbo in my head 'cause it just seems to take so damn long to spool up sometimes. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif
I cant remember, but I will find out for you guys. In the mean time, stay off of the lake until I get there. F#$k! I want to go to the lake.
does that mean you are making a trip to the city of sin??

The HTM 30 footer was built and was in the process of testing before Steve Columbe was killed along with his best friend, the engine tooler, and one of the riggers. They were in a 30 foot twin engine 1000hp at about 90 - 100mph when alleged drive snapped or engine siezed and the boat flipped. HTM becamesilent in the boat industry due to the accident, as word was major law suits by the families who lossed loved ones. S. Columbes wife is running the business now, and according to Hot Boat the company is back on its feet to try and sell boats. The 30 footer has a mold as one was built, but no further news has been advertised. At the time of the accident though, Hot Boat forum was advertising by a HTM representative to buy a HTM 24 from their remaining boats that were built to help out HTM during a difficult time. Their site has pics of the 30' footer, and it is correct, very much like their 24. I believe a single engine 30 was in hot boat at one time if I remember correctly. HTM is going to be at the boat show, so if I see the 30, I'll report back with some pictures

Yeah, they have sold a couple of the 30 footers since the crash, but only 2 if I heard correctly. Â*Also, the reason I ask about the 28 is because there is an ad in the January 2002 issue of Hot Boat (pg. 89) , which I believe is well after the death of Steve, that is still pushing the 30, and says, "Coming soon! SC-27 V and Phantom 28 Cat and Deckboat."
Also, I don't think the boat is splashed from anyone. Â*I remember when a friend bought one a long time ago, there was a law suit against another start-up company or existing builder because they were trying to copy the HTM bottom, that Steve said took him a long time to create from scratch and was trying to patent. Â*There was an article in Hot Boat about it, Â*I don't remember what year.
I do hope they do put out the 28 cat though. Â*I would very seriously consider it. Â*I think HTM makes an unbelievable boat.
Have any of you seen the video they made? SWEET!!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
are you talking about their promo video?? if so i've seen it and yes it is a very good video. and if remember correctly, they show a lot of footage of thier 30 footer. if anybody would like to see i'll be happy to loan it to anyone who's interested. i will say this about HTM, of all the places i called about purchasing a boat (including eliminator) HTM was the ONLY place to send me ANY type of info on thier boats. props to them for doing so even though i ended up with a daytona.

Yeah, the promo. It's good, and those 30 footers haul ass!!!! They even show the single engine version smokin' by the sandbar. And yes, they were VERY cool to me too when I talked to them and it wasn't even Steve. That's why I hope they do the 28, I love the boats and I would love to give people like that my business. Other manufacturers could learn a lot from HTM!!
i agree! they were very friendly and offered on more than one occasion to meet me at havasu for a test drive in whichever model i was interested.
Okay, I will make some calls about the 24' being cut. I am 90% certain that this is true. But, then again there a lot of boats out there that are someone elses. The ultra 247 is DCBs 24' mold that they bought. John took re-worked the bottom and now has a fast 24 footer.
The Eliminator deckboat was a mold purchased from Conquest. The bottom I mean. No shit.
Very common in this business.
The Schiada are actually glastrons without the metal flake paint jobs. LMAO http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

In the promo video, while talking about the bottom of the 24, Steve says it's a patented design (top and bottom). Can you buy a mold from someone, re-work it a bit or just cut it, then call it your own and patent it?
If you change the mold you can.
MOWtown

or if it wasn't patented in the first place (unlikely though).

I just couldn't be that proud of something and call it "mine" if I didn't create it from scratch ................. on the other hand, if it's making me a ton of money, who gives a s**t where it came from!!

Just kill'in time going back through the posts...
I've kind of followed HTM since they started up. The only place their SR24 was "splashed" from was a drawing board. Steve and Roy aiyres(sp), who I believe is a aeronautical engineer came up with the design. Several years ago HTM was involved with Virage(their advertisements shared the same page and they were connected somehow). But when they split up Virage had slashed HTM's hull design which was followed up with a law suit and those molds were later destroyed. There was an article on this a few years ago in HB, but I didn't bring all my HB issues with me to Korea or I'd read up on it again. But, bottom line is Steve was a true hotboater, he took his dream and turned it into a reality. It did get the best of him in the end, but he definitely left a lasting impression in the hot boating community.
The guy who built my engine(Pro Marine in LHC), he owns the 2nd or 3rd 30'er that came out of the mold. He's got twin 1500hp engines coupled to #5 drives - It's bad ass...... I've seen it in the channel cruising, but never out on the open water, hopefully I'll run into him this summer though.
If the do make a 28' cat, I'll be one of the first ones in line... Well, I'll let someone else buy it new, have I'll buy it off them after they get it broke in for me....

Steve was actually on record admitting his bottom was a Warlock. There is no shame in that, all the boat manufacturers do it. Eliminators deck is a COnquest, Utras 247 is the old 24' DCB Extreme. The list goes on, but HTMs are Warlocks, that is well know.
BTW Trouble, nice ride.

I guess everyone but me....
Where did Steve go on record saying that? I'd be curious to read about it.
I guess when you design or build anything you need to have some sort of starting point. All boats start with a hull that will displace water and float, and from there the real engineering begins. His original ideas may have stemmed from a Warlock design, but he definitely took it to the next level of performance. And, it's definitely not a direct "splash". But I hear what you saying though, there's only so many "working" designs out there and if one works, why reinvent the wheel, so to speak.
You've got me curious though. I'll have to search for some pics of Warlock bottoms(I haven't seen too many Warlock running up and down the lakes here in Korea...Ha Ha). And I'll definitely pay more attention when I get back home. I miss the lake.... http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

But, they are fast as hell.

Well, whatever it is I think it is awesome! That 28 would be sweet if they did it, the 24 is a little short but the 30 is a bit much.
