Sign-in
Sign-in will be open from 6:30 AM until 11:00 AM. We will be collecting your basic information such as address and email, and asking you to sign a liability waiver. Each boat will receive a Treasure Map of Lake Mohave marking five of the card stops and the event site, plus an instructions sheet for the Treasure Hunt. Additional Poker Hands can be purchased as well as raffle tickets, the "kids hands" will be free. See the details listed below under "Treasure Hunt Rules". The Treasure Hunt course will be set up the day prior to the event, based upon availability of coves, water levels and weather conditions - the distance on the course will be between seven and twenty miles.

Invitation Treasure Hunt / Poker Run
Insurance allowing..... there might be an Invitation Only Treasure Hunt between 7:00AM and 8:00AM, by invitation only, limited number of boats, staggered start times, assigned starting sequence - all participants and passengers will be required to sign liability waivers, must be over eighteen to be a participant or passenger, life jackets to be worn by participants and passengers while on coarse, lanyard style kill switch, blah, blah, blah.... Contact KC for details, intention is to get the high horse boats through the course before the masses.

Treasure Hunt / Poker Run - For Everyone!
This is going to be a self guided, self paced Treasure Hunt from Cottonwood Cove launch to the event site. No prize for fastest time! Â*Prizes will be awarded for "closest to the average time", best hand, worst hand, and so on..... There will be two types of cards supporting the treasure hunt, poker and a "kids hand" for those who do not play poker. The objective of the poker hand will be the best hand based upon five cards, there will be two draw cards for those who can find them by following the clues, riddles, map, instructions and keeping your eyes open and your mind sharp. The objective of the "kids hand" will be the lowest score since it will be a hand of the game UNO.

- Treasure Hunt Rules
Cards from the poker hand may not be combined with cards from the "kids hand"
Participants of the "kids hand" must be under the age of sixteen to be eligible for prizes
All card envelopes are to remained sealed until instructed to open or turn in by either course instructions or a BETA Representative
Un-sportsmen like conduct will be grounds for forfeiting your poker hands

- Treasure Hunt Requirements
At least one person will be required to get out of the boat at the card stop to read riddle or solve puzzle in order to retrieve cards

- Treasure Hunt Guidelines
The Treasure Hunt will be a timed event, but there will not be any prizes for the fastest times, only "closest to the average time". Statistically, it is to your advantage to buy a second poker hand, therefore it is highly encouraged that you do so. On the day of the event each boat will receive a complete map of the lake and the rules for the Treasure Hunt, follow the rules and guidelines, use you inquisitive nature, and you will find additional cards to better your hand of poker. The first Poker Hand for each boat will probably be $25, followed by $15 for each additional hand, the "kids hand" will be free. We must limit participation in the poker hand to 100 boats and three hundred hands.

- Treasure Hunt Card Stop
Five card stops will be clearly marked on the Treasure Map. Additionally, at least one "draw" card stop will be on the map, though you must find it. There will either be another unmarked card stop, or another way of collecting a "draw" card by following the guidelines received at sign-in. Each Card Stop will be identified by a bright orange traffic cone inside of the cove. On the traffic cone will be a riddle or puzzle to be solved, pointing you in the direction towards finding a box containing the cards for the poker hand and the "kids hand". Please collect one marked envelope for each poker hand, and one marked envelope for each "kids hand". We will do our best to place the traffic cone near a sandy beach area, making it easier to park your boat and retrieve the card. Have you seen puzzles and toys marked with "recommended age", most of the riddles and puzzles will be structured towards the ten year old age range, so some of you might be seriously challenged. The person retrieving the card at the card stop, may have to walk/hike up a hill to find answers, nothing far, but be aware of nature and critters living in the desert.

- Event Location
There are two porta-potties North of Cottonwood Cove, the event site will be near one of these two locations, clearly marked on the Treasure Map. We will try to congregate on a sandy beach, providing good parking spots for the boats, good play areas for kids and dogs, as well as space for additional activities. As you arrive at the event location look for the finish line marked by another traffic cone, walk up and sign-in to the event site collecting your finishing time in the process. The finish for the "Invitation Treasure Hunt" will be slightly different.

- Treasure Hunt - Playing the Hand
There will be six individuals available between 1:00 and 1:30 for you to walk up to and play your hand, recognizable by the clip boards that they will be carrying. At 1:30 the results will be posted and prizes distributed to the winners, followed by the raffle drawing. Prizes will be given for the following categories for the Poker Hand:
Closest to the average time
Best hand within seven cards
Worst hand within seven cards
Best hand within six cards
Best hand within five cards
Worst hand within five cards
Fewest cards found

For the "kids hand", prizes will be given for the following categories:
Lowest hand of UNO
Highest Hand of UNO
Every hand of UNO will win a goodie bag

- Additional Activities
Volleyball anyone! Tug-of-War! At 2:00 there will be a departure of boats headed for Hoover Dam, this is a very pretty run up the river. Also, many people have indicated that they want to camp, the event site should provide everyone with many opportunities to meet others.

More to follow soon.....
Thanks for your time, KC

hey guys..... I need help with this....

I really need some help with insurance, as in a provider of Special Event in Nevada.... any donations towards the insurance would be greatly appretiated.

Also, we need some charities involved, all we need are 100 pieces of literature describing the basics about the charity and how people can get in touch with them - we can/will list them on the insurance.

i don't think it would be a problem to take up a collection to get the costs covered. that way one person (or a few people) get slammed with a big bill.

Hey KC, how about an answer to my question. Do you need to register for this thing or just show up?

You can sign up if you want to do the activities or just show up if you just want to hang out.

I do not have any "pre-registration" at the moment, I'll take care of that next weekend. Rest assured that everyone from LVHB has at least two hand of poker reserved and a spot in the tug of war competition, which by the way my sister will win!

Insurance....
Karen has some free time today so she is going to call around to see if she can find an agent in NV that can cover the event - if we can not obtain insurance in the next two weeks then we might convert this to a "private party" by sending each person an invite. As a private party we don't need permits, but most charities require a $1,000,000 insurance policy before they will get their name involved.

Thanks for the offer of collections, I'll keep you posted.

Pictures of the rig and the ride at the end of this weekend, Karen and I are sending the weekend in Havasu and that will give us the opportunity to snap some pics!

Also, pics of the water stops will be posted within the next two weeks, very simple, plastic, no worries about beaching your boat or dinging a prop!

Thanks for your time, thoughts and support,
KC

Oh sure you have time to go to Havasu for the weekend but no time to call around for insurance and think of the money you spend on fuel this weekend, it could go towards paying the insurance for all of us! Jus kiddin, have a good time http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .

spent most of yesterday talking to insurance companies...

This is a double edged sword.... The insurance companies do not give quotes until 60 days before the event, the national park service requires the insurance information on the permit application and that must be submitted no later than 45 days before the event....

Following these constaints I have between now and around March 11th to get the insurance and submit the application for the permit.

The best quote I received yesterday was $6500.... can you say outside of my budget!

Hey guys..... I'm thinking of throwing a private party on May 3rd at Cottonwood Cove, and I think I'll sell maps of the lake for about $50 each.... at the end of the day you might find an envelope of cash in your hand.... Also I'll bring some toys that we can play with in the sand... now play nicely!!

That sounds like a good idea. As luck would have it we are already planning on being there that weekend. I could use a new map of the lake and if I were to find an evelope of cash in my hand, well, I wouldn't mind. Maybe we all could get together and open up these envelopes together. Afetr that why dont we all take a run up to the dam, at say, around 2pm. This sounds like it could be fun and we could all be excellent to another. See you there.

that does sound good....

also you might find some literature that describes charities that benefit children, take it home with you....

If the envelope of cash ends up in my boat and I haven't a clue where it came from - so be it!

Seriously, print up some disclaimers and go from there. Will your one charity accept participation without the insurance rider?

They are a small charity and willing to enroll all the help they can get, should not be an issue for them. They were surprised when I told them I was researching insurance and would add them as "additionally insured".....

This is too wierd, I was planning on going that weekend too!!! In the morning we were going to cruise around and stop at a couple of cool areas, about 5 spots http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif , then hang for a couple of hours in a cove called "Owl Cove", THEN make a run up to Hoover. You guys are great!

This whole thing started as a miscommunication between Greg and I regarding last years regatta - the pimps and ho's tour. After exchanging some ideas and deciding upon the scope of the project, the concepts for Be Excellent To Another was created, copywitten, and in less than 60 days it comes to life! As with any project there have been changes in the scope, in our case it has gone from really huge to something that will be excellent fun! "Game on!"

From the inception, we wanted to pull something together that was unique, invited many people to get involved, involved more than just the guys driving the rig and the ride, invited people to think beyond their suroundings towards doing something for another. After a few emails and many posts across the boards, people started to offer ideas, concerns and so forth. A communication plan was put in place, design meetings set-up, people attended and started getting involved. Non of us have done this before and we are still having fun as it is pulled together. The amazing thing is that people are showing up and making a difference.....

Most of the participation has come from the members of LVHB, and I thank everyone for all that has been done.

A few weeks ago while Karen and I were hanging out in our one of our favorite establishments, the poolside bar at London Bridge, an elderly gentlemen inquired about the shirt I was wearing - "Be Excellent To Another". We have been challenged to get that message out in a far broader and grander scale.... knocked me on my arse!! So stay tuned!!

I still need to deliver shirts to Las Vegas.... have not forgotten that.

One consitant question has been "will there be more, next year" - YES, so everything is being structured for reuse.

Thanks for your time, listening, comments and most of all your support! KC
