Well, now that the details have been worked out, I might as well open it up to you all, too. Beer Hunter, No strESSEX, myself and about 5 other families will be going to Lake Powell this summer. We will be there from July 19th through July 27.
We will be day boating it from the Wahweap Lodge. If any of you are interested, we would love to have you join us. Should be a lot of fun.
Anyone, Anyone, Anyone....Bueller. Come on guys, step up and join in the fun. I plan on putting about 60 hours on my boat that week! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Day boating it from the lodge?? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/ohboy.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif What kind of Lake Powell vacation is that?? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif J/K
We'll be there I believe the last few days you guys will. Probably camp somewhere in the first 50 miles of lake. I think we're looking at 7/24-7/28 or 29?? We'll definitely try and hook up with you while we are there. We'll talk about it at the BETA event! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

LushUs is getting a houseboat for there in mid summer, hope he sees this and checks it out. He's out of town right now, but I'm sure he would love to go. We have gone every year, but won't make it this time.
On to bigger and better things, like raising twins so they can clean the boat and drive it when I'm too smashed - LOL http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Brad - We will definately hook up with you during that time. You can actually see a lot of the lake that way and it is a lot cheaper than renting a houseboat. You just spend more time boating during the day. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif My wife would never do the primative camping thing, so I have to take what I can get.
We will have some other friends on a houseboat up in the Escalante Arm. The dads and older kids will probably head up there early one morning and come back the next day.
Let talk about it.
Greg - As much as I love my kids and as good at driving they are, I still get mad when they want to drive. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif I love driving my boat and can't get enough of it. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Primitive?? We fill the tent up with all our gear and sleep on a bed in the boat! Pretty comfortable!
The only thing about that time of year is getting monsoon storms in the afternoon http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif That can get ugly really quick! Hopefully we'll get a good spot protected a little from the wind. Have not benn there in 2 years, can't wait! Want to see a little more of the lake this time, maybe a trip to Bullfrog or Hite. Have only been as far as mile marker 62 http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I got the hell beat out of me twice when I went up there in a 16 foot jetboat. I finally get a bigger boat and I've never taken it there http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Maybe this summer will be the one. We'd probably do the Wahweep Lodge thing. Mainly because you can't get any good gas on the lake, even at $3.50 a gallon http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif But camping in cats ain't that much fun either!

Hi Everyone, been working way to hard, and time to get back into the mix @ LVHB. *
As we all agree, Lake Powell is the utimate in fresh water boating and I have been reading about some of the trips planed for later this year. *As a 12 - year veteran of house boating on Powell, I wanted to make you all aware of the article below. *I think we will have enough water this year as the heavy snow months for the Rockies are still ahead of us, but good information is the key to having a great experience on the water.

Less of a lake
Jan 6 2003 12:00AM *By Seth Muller Lake Powell Chronicle *
The week-long shutdown of the ferry running between Halls Crossing and Bullfrog marinas joined the closure of Castle Rock Cut as results of the dwindling water level of Lake Powell.
If the level continues its drop, Stateline launch ramp is the next closure on the list.
The National Park Service reported that the ferry, which makes the connection of Utah Route 263 uplake in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, stopped running on Dec. 24 due to “large rock obstacles, which hamper boat traffic around the Bullfrog public launch ramp.” The rocks surfaced as the lake level has dropped to the 3,620-foot elevation mark.
Park service employees made adjustments to the Bullfrog ramp on Dec. 31 in order to allow ferry access again, reports show. But, as the water continues to recede, more adjustments will become necessary.
“Changes will have to be made as the lake level continues to drop, and it’s expected to,” said Marianne Karraker, public information officer at Glen Canyon NRA. “It’s still going to be an issue.”
The ferry is considered part of Route 263 by the Utah Department of Transportation, but it stops running occasionally, usually for maintenance or inspection. UDOT posts signs at 263’s junctions to warn drivers of the closures.
Each foot lower that Lake Powell drops, the recreation area draws closer to another closure or problem. The next expected closure is Stateline launch ramp, which joins Wahweap and Bullfrog as one of the three most popular launch and retrieval areas for boaters.
Stateline becomes a problem area for launching at the 3,619-foot mark. If the lake level drops seven more feet from that point, then Wahweap launch ramp is in danger of shutting down, NPS reports indicate.
The lake has dropped seven feet during the past four months, Bureau of Reclamation reports show.
“We could get to the point where all the launch ramps are inaccessible, whether it's by ferry or private boat,” Karraker said, noting that closures are not a serious problem now because of limited lake activity. But, the early part of the visitor season is only a few months away.
Already, Hite and Antelope Point launch ramps have shut down and the ferry’s launch ramp at Bullfrog shut down a couple of months ago. Since that time, the ferry has used the public launch ramp.
The lake level usually rises with spring runoff from snowmelt in Utah and Colorado. To date, the bureau reports the snowpack is currently running about 80 to 90 percent of normal, but drier land will have some of the runoff soaking into the ground, reports show.
The forecast for runoff into Lake Powell shows it will be 72 percent of normal, much better than last year’s 14 percent. But, in the end, any amount not above normal will not make up for the deficit.
Paul Ostapuk, who monitors the weather at the Navajo Generating Station, said the predicted percentage could change in January, February and March, which are “typically the better snow-producing months.”
The Page region, despite an increase in percipitation in the late summer and fall, still finished out the season 76 percent of normal for total precipitation, according to SRP reports provided by Ostapuk. The NGS station reported 5.87 inches of precipitin fell, as opposed to the normal average of 7.75 inches.

Leaving Saturday morning for the first river trip of the year, Karen and kids first trip as well. I would prefer a much warmer weekend for the kids first exposure - but Karen needs a weekend of rest, Havasu is the ticket!

Nice meeting you also. I checked with reservations at Lake Powell, they are indicating that Building Six First FLoor is a request and not a guarantee - I had that on my reservation all ready so I left mine as is. So I did not consume any of the available rooms in the group reservation that expires on the 24th, you have four rooms confirmed.

Rates:
I've booked my room as a package to include a slip, they gave me a rate of $134 for the room and $18.75 for the slip.
Building Six First Floor:
The resevations desk informed me that this is a "request only" and not a guarantee.

Does everyone buy fuel from the dock, or pull out and drive into Page, or gas cans?

KC-There is a gas station right in the lodge area that is much cheaper than the gas dock. I can't remember exactly how much cheaper, but I believe it was a good 50 cents a gallon? Someone else might be able to give you accurate info on the price difference.

Hi, I'm a friend of B-rad. Did someone say Lake Powell? My wife and I live in Flagstaff (only 2 hours from Powell) so we usually go to Powell 2-3 times a month from June-September. We would love to meet new people to hang out with and maybe show you some of our seceret places. My wife works for NAU school of Forestry, so we get some inside information on what the Rangers and Park service have coming up. The water level WILL suck this year. So far, a lot of people that aren't familiar with the lake have racked up their boats on hidden rocks. The water level should only go up 10-15 feet from the present of 93' below max. The good side of this is there will be many new things to see that have been covered by water for years that only divers could explore like, Ruins, caves and canyons. Currently work is being done to extend all launch ramps, including Antelope so they will be useable by late June. By the time your trip is on, we should have explored the first 100 miles or more of the new low level lake. Hope to meet some of you at Lake Mojave on May 3rd.

Check out this link below and go to launch ramps. Lake level currently at 3,606 in elevation and they expect the lake to rise 17-19 feet between now and the early part of July when the lake level will again start to fall.
Currently, Wahweap ramp is open, no problem, Stateline ramp is closed but expected to open once the water begins coming up. Up lake, Halls Crossing & Bullfrog are open but one must use caution. Hite Marina ramp is now a dirt/mud adventure that probably should not be attempted w/o a 4x4. Good thing is that the NPS has taken this low water opportunity to lengthened and widened both ramps at Wahweap & Stateline.
Castle Rock cut is still closed until water comes up so everyone going up lake now has to go the long way through the narrows.
Hope this helps,
D2

Currently we have the boat parked in the driveway, it going to get cleaned, waxed, some gel repairs, and a water injection system for the motor to combat the heat of the lakes and altitude of Powel.

KC, do you do your own gel repairs? If so, do you use one of those gel repair kits with the 6 tints? Or do you have someone else do it? I have several little "repairs" that I need to do but I'm afraid to use one of those west marine kits for fear that I might make things worse not better. Anybody else?

Hey KC...does water injection actually work? Are there kits for the various Mercruiser motors or just generic kits that have to be adapted? What are the ramifications to the warranty?

Water Injection.... http://www.ppeengineering.com/ERL.htm
Theory is to combat the heat of Havasu.... if you ever run your boat early in the morning in December, and then in the middle of the day in July - you'll notice a significant difference in the power output. Due to cool dense air and timing.
Water injection will not add power, but as the water evaporates it will cool the air charge, resulting in dense cool air hitting the MAP and MAT sensors, the ECU then does not need to back off the timing to avoid detonation caused by hot thin air.
Any mods to a motor will void the warranty, that is why Mercruiser paints the motor black after it is assembled. So the objective is to install without any mods to the motor. My system will sit in a small plastic basket in the engine bay, fed by the speedo water feed, with one wire connected to the tach feed that is on the Nordic side of the Mercruiser wiring horness, and initially a spray nozzle that points at the air intake. So it is easily removed and does not touch the motor. This will support a 2D water map, based upon rpm only.
After the warranty has expired, the nozzel will be placed inside of the coast gaurd flame arrester and an additional wire will be run from the MAP sensor. This will support a 3D water map, based upon rpm and engine load.
If it works as I have read, on a hot day my motor will perform as if it is a cold day in December, that means I can run my 26p year round with no issues. For $500 I think it will net the best performance from my Mercruiser for the conditions at Havasu, it will also steam clean the inside of the motor which should equate to cleaner oil as carbon will no longer build.

MOWtown - Why don't you come up to Lake Powell in two weeks with all of us? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif There is plenty of camping on the lake or in the campgrounds at Wahweap. There is also a hotel in Wahweap, which we all are staying in. We are paying about $130/night for the room. You can also load up the boat and go camp in many of the remote places on the lake and be all by yourself. Check out these website for more info...

I am extremely excited to announce that the planets have aligned (work, wife, etc. ) and, if it isn't too late, my family and I will be joining you at Powell! Beer Hunter, I'll call you tommorow night for reservation details and will book them either tomorrow night or Mon morn. We'll probably be coming mid week throught the last weekend (23-27). If you read this before I call you, my basic question is: Is there some specific buildings or rooms that I should request (hoping that I even have options left this late )? All info is appreciated.
