Can someone explain what the hell this stands for? It seems to be a big deal between the Spectra guys and the DCB guys? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dunno.gif

Daves Custom LAKE Boats They Spectre guys add the Lake since they, DCB, claim to be the worlds best but are never seen running hard, or at all, in the ocean.

Basically, its just those Spectre guys trying to make themselves feel better since they didn't buy a DCB http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Dan, Mark, Carey, Jordy...they all say it now http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Call it what you want...I bet you aren't thinking of beating DC(L)Bs when that boat starts the porpoise from 60-80mph--its called hold the f* on http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrinbounce2.gif

its funny when you hear all about DCB racing when it doesnt exist--DCLB has to run a custom kick stand to keep them in the water--yes patrick is right my porpoise starts at a faster speed than his boat goes--what a concept--lets buy a boat that doesnt race and bitches about all the boats that are faster than he is.

The custom kickstand he is referring to IMO is the center sponson on the tunnel http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Spectre's are true tunnels, DCBs, Eliminators, Ultra, anything Talon Based (Howard, Magic, Conquest) all have center sponsons. The DCB, Eliminator and Ultra center sponsons are out of the water at speed- the Talon based bottoms are the lowest point in the water at all times. You may hear it referred to as "training wheels" from true tunnel guys.

"the custom kickstand" is definitely inventive if he meant it the way I took it http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

actually we have no idea what the purpose of the center sponson is...very soon you will see an Ultra cat without one though, at least to test http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumb.gif
I hear that it makes the boat turn better...how? I know every "lake boat" tunnel I have ever driven or ridden on has a pretty big lean to the outside below about 60 MPH, above 60 has a nice comfy inside lean. 30' Spectre does not lean out--just turns, and HARD!!!
I hear it stops the porpoise that is found on a "true" tunnel...well, back to the drawing board there too, only cat I know of with no porpoise is the 27' Shadow. The Cobra Venom (same bottom as the Shadow but higher X-dimension) porpoises 72-80. 25' Daytona has a pretty nasty hop to it (just ask James) 26' DCB is known to porpoise mid-60's to mid 70's

I think the main reason that the center pod exists on SINGLE sterndrive boats is to provide a place to mount the drive http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Someone told me this drive thingy helps it go. So yes, you if you bolt a few Wackers on it, no need for a center sponson (which was Ultra's thought on their new 26 deckboat). I think the Talon bottom leans in at virtually any speed turning, however I can also attest to my boat having a slight lean outside at slower speeds, but leans into turns at quicker speeds.

Dan-- glad to see you finally joined the conversation.

There are two versions of the 25 Daytona. One with a double step and one with a single. A buddy of mine had both. He said the double stepped hull is much more stable and doesnt really porpoise. The single step he hated. Said it porpoise and needed really big HP to get up and running.

I would think the center sponson would cut some of the aero lift from the boat, making the porpoise speed higher. Perhaps it's higher than some of them run, so it doesn't porpoise at all.

Well, IT's hard to add to this when you don't have a boat but,
up to and over 100mph the 29' force offshore does not porpoise. it leans in at all speeds on turns. it does have the center sponson [ I call it the uvula] or clitoris, which makes for a very fast plaining boat. having a deep tunnel does nothing on glass water, but is a major plus in big ruff water at any speed. sence it's allways flat and glassy at lake mead I don't think a cat boat would serve any porpose but to show your big baller status http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rollinglaugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumb.gif

Mead is not always flat and glassy!

I will post some pics when I get home.

Thor can back me up on this as he grew up going to that lake. There have been times you could have surfed out there. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif[/QUOTE]<span id='postcolor'>
Trying NOT to hijack this thread, but it brings to mind those two guys who died out there running hard in a big V in 60 mph wind about 2003 or so. Â*Seems they flipped out, boat was found running in circles.

Anyway, we all know Mead is nasty Â* http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/insane.gif

thor is right about the 25 daytona having two models. the twin step does not seem to have a porpoise. mine on the other hand does between 60-70 if the water is glass. if there is a chop, i don't get any porpoise at all. you can also get rid of it by adding in a slight turn of the steering wheel. or just hammer it and drive through it. the twin step daytona also has a slightly larger cockpit area. i believe they moved the dashboard up towards the bow of the boat about 8 or so inches. mine will lean to the outside in a turn if i stay at the same speed and ease into a turn. if i back out for a second, let the boat start to come around and then get back into the throttle it takes a slight lean to the inside. also, it will corner like a slot car at 30mph or so http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/Wow1.gif

thor, not sure why your buddy thinks it takes a lot more power to run the single stepper? it was tested to just a shade under 150mph with a 1200hp quad rotor. i'll get 80+ with a 500efi. it won't win any drag races (right greg) but it has very efficient hull once up on plane.

It's an AWESOME ride! I never noticed any porpoise in the half dozen or so times I've been out with you but if you say it's there then it is I'm sure.

Hmmmm,
I dont know why he said that either Rude. He had a single step Eliminator with a 500EFI, and a double step with an HO and loved the HO package much better. He ran right around 76MPH I think.
