If I can get the site re-designed and you'd all keep your post count and MOST of your info (for example my guy isn't 100% positive that your avatar or signature would move correctly), including all of the old posts and content - would you want a fresh look to the site?

I'm thinking about moving hosts AND moving it from an ikonboard to a vbulletin - I think the vbulletin is just better and I like the features.

IF YES, then PLEASE take a minute to post some color schemes or links to other sites you like.

Also, this is just in the initial stages of happening - I'm just gauging interest. Last time I did this the vote was NO but that was mostly because the post count and old content would go away.

Greg - I am in favor of the switch. There are so many problems with this board (ie. search engine doesn't work). As for color scheme....I like this one that we have. Most others are just white and plain looking.

I agree with Kevin. Just give everyone enough notice and they can copy off any information they want to keep and then they can cut and paste when the new format debuts.

Sounds good so far, keep it coming. I don't have ANY support for this board and haven't for years. The original designer bailed on me soon after completing the work.

The guy I have now is pretty good though and I've worked with him for about a year and he's still around - it might be nice!

If there are EXTRA functionality things the users want we can add them too - he completely customized my other board for me (not that it matters, there's no one on it!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

I was just looking at the core site aside from the forum - I forgot what it looked like! There's a lot of stuff that needs updating but the colors and stuff are still cool I think.

Good to be around here again. There's just so much stuff going on with my practice and family it's hard to keep involved in everything.

That's probably the host and lack of bandwidth - but I'm no expert.

The vBull sites have a lot of embedded items that install jpg's and other software (ActiveX etc). They also have more cookies deposited on your PC too. The new version has a ton of problems and a patch list that gets updated daily. If you are hosting it on a server that you have to pay for bandwidth, you'll use 1/4 of it just by the features that are downloaded everytime the page gets a hit.

I really like the vbull features and it seems put together very well, but the site is kind of paying for itself now with the google ads and if I start using a ton of bandwidth that will put me back in the hole every month. Not that it's a huge deal but I'd rather have it pay for itself etc.

That was a pic from a cover story a magazine did on me and my practice. Â*I tried to do the hicking clothes route but they thought it best I wore a suit.

It all depends on what your bandwidth is per month and the burst charge. What is server limits on downloads? There should be a set rate of so much mb or gb per month, after that there is a charge from the host. The easiest and best method is to host your own server and get a 3mb DSL ($50/mo). This site doesn't have that much traffic each month, it would depend on how much your other site draws.

There are several sites that I go to that have just installed the new version. Most, if not all expierenced serious down time in the conversion, and they are still working the bugs out from several weeks ago...

Maybe it's better to tackle this in mid winter - when only the core group is on here. That way downtime won't affect as many people and won't be as big of a deal for the most part, plus the kinks could be worked out before boating season begins next year.

I'm open to suggestions - anyone who's been around for several years knows I always put these things to a vote - the whole reason I started the site was to create just what it's become, a great place to meet and chat about boating stuff.

Maybe I'll just table this issue for now.

For those who don't know who I am, I started the site in March of 2002 and run it (I say that loosely because you all and Kevin really run it) - you can tell by my post count. I just haven't been on much in the last couple of years because we got pregnant, I sold the boat knowing I would want something bigger, better, etc and that we wouldn't have as much of a chance to use it until the boys (we have twins) got a bit older. It was a great decision for us, but I did have to sacrifice boating - being on the boards just made it worse.

Kevin is the sherriff - I handed the reigns over to him to watch the site and to my knowledge he's been awesome (thanks Kev!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. That's not going to change ever right Kevin!!

So, I basically pay the bills and collect the advertising revenue from the google ads up top. It's pretty close to a wash right now. It was under water for a long time until I figured the ads out.

I'm hoping to get back on the lake within a year, the boys loved this last weekend with James and Kurt, and they loved Jame's boat (Thanks James!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

I pop my head in here once in a while to check things out, but don't post much until the last couple of days as I kicked around the idea of re-designing the site and giving it a new look.
