Looks like I'll be out on Mead on the Monday - 9/4

Anyone else going out?

I'm 99% sure we're going to be out there. What boat are you going to be in and where are you going to be?

Well, I'm supposed to be going with friends, so not sure where yet. Just did some fixing from the last outing on the Scarab and it looks like my little issue turned into a bigger issue. Looks like it melted a piston. Had a timing issue and had to run home on one motor, but didn't think I'd hurt it.

Oh well.

Not sure now. The STV could be back together in a few hours, but it's not a Mead boat at all. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

What happend? Â*Do you have the parts? Are we parts shopping again? Â*With me it is at a stand still. Â*The less I do to the boat, the better off I will be. By end of September I should have all parts and it will take me a week off work to get her done... Â*can't wait. Â*Let me know if you need any help with your engine, I'll be glad to give you a hand as I can't do nothing with mine for now.

Hey Kim. That last outing to Havasu, I had the stb motors top bearing come loose. All 8 bolts either came out or sheared off and it spun about 90*. Obviously, this messed with the timing big time, as it retarded it severly. It didn't run long, but I guess the damage was done.

Got the bearing cap bolted back in place, replaced the trigger and stator (whos wires got chewed by the flywheel), and ran a compression check. Upon pulling #6 spark plug...uh oh...

http://www.speedcraving.com/scarab/plug1.jpg

So, off came the head, carbs and intakes. Looks like it didn't do anything to any of the other cylinders other than the one. I'll be pulling the piston out tonight. Just have to figure out if the rod is stock or modified, and same for the piston. I have stock components to replace it with, but doubt what in there is stock...so I'll have to make it match.

http://www.speedcraving.com/scarab/blown/piston2.jpg

All the gaskets are on the way. I'll have the piston out tonight and a new one coming tomorrow.

I'm hoping to have it back together and running before the Labor Day weekend.

Hi Keith,

Good job, getting that taken care of that quick. I ran into a fella called Dale Hadley from Wiseco. He knows a lot about these engines and have what you need. His number is 440-497-3777. E-Mail: dhadley@wiseco.com, give him a call if you need some special piston to get it runing again. And if you need a hand you have my number already!

Thanks for the info Kim. Turns out it's a stock piston. Might be modified (I won't know until I pull it out tonight), but I'll be able to tell once it's out. I have plenty of stock pistons (3 motors worth). http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

OK, just a few peeps...

What's this I hear Cauville is closed to anything over 25'? Something about the ramp being broke up below that water level?

Viper
08-25-2006, 11:25 AM
Was there last Tuesday. Looking down the ramp, the right side was closed as they were working on putting grates down. the left side was open but has a big hole about 15 feet out next to the dock. It made launching my boat easier when the trailer dropped in the hole, but you will need 4x4 to get out.

Mike.

Hmmm...The POS I'm driving right now doesn't have 4x4...I'm wondering if they are planning to have something done before Labor Day weekend. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smashfreak.gif

Well, looks like it's gonna be TIGHT to get this thing running by the weekend. Just got another piston and the one that came out has been modified. It has transfer ports milled into it and I'm not sure where I can get the new one modified to match the old one on such short notice. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I'd need to find a machinist with a mill and about a hour worth of time.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Gary. I managed to contact Brett at Lawless Racing Engines on Saturday and dropped the piston off. He says it will be done tonight. I'm hoping to get it reinstalled on the rod, and into the motor tonight. I can button it up tomorrow night and hopefully fire it then.

Called Callville and can't get an answer from anyone today about the ramp. The Marina manager said they are doing something out there, but that the Rangers are in charge of it.

Got the Part Services dispatch on the phone, and he didn't know anything.

Left a message at the rangers station, but no call back yet. I plan to water test on Thursday, so I need to know soon where I have to drive to. Not having 4WD, I don't want to get stuck.

Hey Kim, thanks for the offer. I might be by to steal some electronics instead. Got the motor put back together (including 6 heli-coils in the head bolts) and it won't fire. I had swapped the trigger and the stator, and I'm not sure which it might be - or it could be that the power packs were damaged when the stator wires were cut.

Anyway, everything on that motor is different, being that it is a power steering motor (like one of yours) http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif . I have my dad overnighting me a complete wiring harness, flywheel, upper bearing carrier, stator, trigger and power packs, so I have a complete setup, but I'm not 100% sure it will all work.

I also have your tach sitting here. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

So how busy will Echo launching ramp be this Saturday?

I'm thinking of either launching at Lake Mead marina and hauling the mail to LVHB beach or launching from Echo and cruising down.

Does anyone know how long does it take to get to Echo marina from the west side of town?

I live up in the northwest as well, off Lone Mountain ... the drive to Calville or Echo are long ones, and where the roads are bad you risk kicking up rocks into your gel coat or slowing down making the drive interminable when wanting to get to the water ...

Store in Boulder City, tow a mile or three to the Lake Mead Marina, plop in and enjoy a boat ride to the north end ... burns gas, but you can't take the cash with you http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumb.gif
