Hello all, new member here. It seems like this is a power boat forum. I just bought a brand new seadoo jet boat, so I am not sure I belong here. But I do live in Las Vegas, lol.. well, hopefully I get to meet some new people through this website. My name is Quinn and I am a law student.

Well, I wanted to get a Cheetah, but all I could afford is an 18 foot seadoo.. I haven't pass my Bar exam yet, so I have to settle for what fits the budget... Will be posting some pics soon..

Funny you should say cheetah. I will be picking up my new fastcat 24 this weekend. I hope. What seadoo did you get?
I have seen a few with wakeboard towers on them that look like a lot of fun. But Like we said around here it's not about the boat it's about the person. We all like to have a good time and meet up at the lake.
My boat is the twin brother of my brother in laws boat that we are ridding in in the photo below

Welcome to the club!
Here's my honest suggestion for a first time boater...go to one of the free United States Power Squadrons' classes (http://www.usps.org/e_stuff/BoatSmart.html). You will learn a TON of stuff, from knot tying to navigation rules to safety requirements, etc. Well worth 4 hrs on a Saturday. It will even get you the discount on your insurance!
Next, once you're all schooled up, go get out on the lake and practice docking at one of the floating toilets. Might not be pretty, but it will give you a ton of experience maneuvering your jet around docks and other boats, to avoid collisions and give you the basics of how the thing will react. Sounds retarded, but there's usually no one around them (to hit or point fun) unlike the crowded docks.
That right there will save you a lot of hassles, arguments, scratches, etc.
Happy boating!

Welcome to the boards.. As stated earlier, if it floats... You're in...
AFAIK that's the only floating toilet I know of on Mead.. But Mead is big and I haven't spent alot of time looking for them...
Sounds like Keith got you started in a great direction.. Since you are new to driving and you have a Sea Doo boat, the most important thing to learn is that you need power to turn a jet.. Biggest problem I see is people getting scared and letting off the throttle then turning the wheel to find out the boat keeps going forward without using power to force the turn. Practice and you should become familiar with it quickly. Sounds like the course should help out quite a bit.
Where's the pics?? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I know I've been told there are 4 our there total. According to this document NDOW Statement (http://ndow.org/fish/where/waters/south/10lake_mead.pdf), they claim 7 were installed in 2001. Looking through my GPS points, I have only marked two of them:
Rotary Cove:
Just East of the West entrance of the Narrows on the North side in a cove. N36 08.695 W114 38.659
Crescent Cove:
One cove South of Midpoint Island. N36 09.547 W114 27.006
I will see if I can find where the others are supposed to be. I've never been North of Echo (besides at the photo shoot) or East of Temple Bar, nor have I don't much exploring in those basins, so they may be there and I've just never run across them.

I'm really glad I took the course, even after having been around boating since as far back as I can remember. It's a great course, and honestly, we should all probably go for a refresher at some point. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Group Event? Out of boating season of course.
