Thinking of moving over to Vegas area soon. Just wondering, where is the best areas to live? Was over there last weekend spent some time in Henderson, kinda liked it there. Plus the proximity to Lake Mead. But was hearing something about Summerlin being quite nice. Probably will rent at first till I decide for sure whats up. Anyway, Im new to this board and any info would be cool. Thanks.

Personally, I live on the NW side of town. I like my area, but you can spend more money and get bigger property in Summerlin or Green Valley/Henderson.
I'd say it just depends on where you work. There are nice areas all around, just find something close to work, since that will be the bulk of your driving. I used to live close to work (<10 minutes), now I'm a 30 minute drive. I could have bought a house equivalent to what I have now for the same money on this side of town, but I wasn't working here at the time.
My suggestion is to rent an apartment for about 6mo - 1yr and see where YOU want to live.

I am in Summerlin, and I love it here also. It mostly depends on where you are going to work. The commute sucks no matter where you live. So plan on working close to home.
Best of luck.

Really? last time i was over there was driving around on a friday between 11 am and 2 pm and experienced no traffic at all. I mean there was some but nothing like here in so. cal. did I just get lucky or is only mornin and evening times that are bad? Chances are i will be working all over the place so i guess it really just comes down to where i like. Will be over on next thursday. see how things are then i guess. Thanks for the advice. Late.

What I meant was if you live way to the North West ( 95-Centennial Parkway) and work down town. It could be a pretty bad drive. But the rest is not bad. I live in Summerlin and work near Mandalay Bay close to the airport and it takes me 15 minutes each way.

ahh i see. yeah that interchange near downtown looks like it could get crowded and when i was leaving town around 4pm near 15/215 was a lil crowded. but at least it cleard up not like here in so. cal. where it never does, you remember right? Late.

I've done both commutes for a bit now, the green valley one is 2/3rds of the NW one, at least from my perspective.
Pump her,
If you are a socal resident now, LV has zero traffic in comparison. Trust me.

I agree. I lived in Santa Clarita when the earthqake happened in 1994. Traffic can never get worse than that. 4 hour commute each way. Anything after that is heaven.

Right on. Thats what I was thinking. Thanks for the info guys. Working local for a change here in Riverside/Corona but even the local traffic is getting horrible. Cant wait to get outta here.

Just curious, why LV? Family? Affordability?
I loved it there when I was living in Green Valley!

Mostly just need a change. Been living here in Riverside for all my 32 years now and ready for something different. Got a line on a decent job there soon as it comes though I'm outta here. Plus the proximity to the river is a big plus. Although the girlfriend isn't so big on the idea so I guess I'm gonna have to leave her behind. Not sure how thats gonna work out. Trying to convince her to go with me but she's not ready to quit her job and all that, been there 15 years now and is pretty secure there. She can't take a day off without 2-3 phone calls, and a stack of work when she gets back. But I think she will come around soon enough.

I moved out here bout 3 years ago from Chino, i know you know where that is http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I moved to Green Valley, really dont go anywhere other than green valley, or maybe SevenHills/Anthem. Its paradise out here, i love it. Lake is 8 minutes from my house. Everything is new. No inland empire smog. Affordable housing. Appreciation is twice as much here than anywhere. When i first moved outta there, everyone called me crazy. Now everyone says im lucky and now they are all tryin to get out here. Good luck.

Just curious...what do you all do for a living in Vegas? There doesn't seem to be much in the way of traditional manufacturing jobs. Lots of "service" related work, I suppose. Certainly lots of construction. Lots of Casino employment. Just curious. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh come on you guys are killing me here. I know I want to live there but you are making it sound even better with every post. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif As for work I'm trying to get into the operating engineers (heavy equipment and such) interview this Thursday. But have to be back here Friday morning so its gonna be a short trip http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Where I'm going is across street from NAFB, so I got a room at Texas station (any thoughts?) Thought that way I could take a drive through summerlin. Plus the room was only $30 and not going to be there much. Just a short nap or two and a shower. Thanks again for the info.

Yeah I know they are a lil tough to get into but the apprenticeship coordinator told me they are placing quite a few guys still, not like it was a few years ago though. Took the test in early December and then got a letter last week they want to interview me. Not sure if they interview everybody , some 300 people took the test. So we'll see. With any luck....

E502, Anthem is beautiful! Seven Hills (where we live) is adjacent to it, and very comparable, but we don't have the big ass waterfall in the front http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif We looked at Anthem too though, it was a tough decision.

Well back from my long stay in town, all of 14 hours. Interview went well they told me I'm in the top hand full of candidates. They wouldn't promise a job but that something should come up in the next few months. Took a big circular drive around 515, 215, summerlin parkway. Think I have decided on Henderson area for starters. Summerlin was nice just a lil to close to North Las Vegas I think, plus closer to the lake. But you guys weren't kidding about the traffic! I know I picked a very bad time to take a drive(4-6 p.m.) but I wanted to see how bad it could be. Its pretty bad. Just glad I wasn't in a hurry. Didnt have time to check out anthem, seven hills, maybe next time. Wish I could have stayed the weekend, AVN awards show and convention would have been nice. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

My commute from downtown to seven hills is about half of what it was from the NW, but I was a ways out.
You'll like Henderson, and it's half the distance to the lake like you said.

Seven Hills is almost sold out. I think Anthem is too - They're both nice places, but there are plenty of nice places close, and you don't have all of the fees and such. Look close to Eastern, or GV Pkway South of the 215

I was out at Anthem over the holidays visiting a friend who moved there back in November. A lot of construction going on. There should be additional phases coming up as there is plenty of real estate around there. If they handle it like the Calif. folks they'll build out each phase then release the next. Keep check both sites and get on a mailing list if you're serious as that is the best way to keep in touch. Even though I took a tour of the Anthem complex a year ago, I keep getting info sent to me.

There is a great track of all one story, big homes (2200' -2800'http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif called Hunter's Ridge off of Horizon Ridge. Any realtor in the area would know. Very nice and plenty of spots to park your boats.
