New blower, big cam, coat of wax ? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I'm going to change out my coupler due to some motor mounts that refuse to stay put. Going to double nut those suckers this time! Saw some cool looking Eddie Marine billet solid mounts I might go with. While the motors out, new center pod bilge pump and depth finder transducer. Maybe a few minor touch up details here and there. Oh yeah, new outdrive http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif I want to get it all back together and continue prop testing that 31 Hydromotive.

Hey, there is something to be said about turn-key reliablity! While the motors been flawless, every winter theres always something. Each winter I say, THIS year I finallly get to put a good stereo in the boat. Two years ago I spun a couple of bearings in the 454, so I built the 509. Last winter I had a fuel tank develope a leak. The bad part is it was under the floor. What a mess, had to cut Â*both tanks out, new ones in, make new floor and then new carpet. Oh well, maybe before Boys Weekend http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I did get the engine out today and on the stand. Clean up the bilge and start the little projects.

This spring the boat is getting a crank triggered direct ignition and water injection to compat the 120+ temps in Havasu. All components that will be moved to th enew motor next year.
KC
that sounds pretty trick! have you field tested it yet?

I HAD big plans for upgrades this winter (new gel, new interior, fix up trailer....) but unfortunately, like Craig, that will have to wait for NEXT winter! This winter, the only upgrading I'll be doing is large fries, and a large drink! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
dont forget the apple pie!

rude...
still waiting for the water injection system to be delivered from over-seas, it is a touch of overkill since it is designed for a turbo motor. system testing to occur in February after installation, with real world testing to occur as soon as things warm up! KC

KC, what made you decide to go with the water injection? I run Havasu and Phoenix and never had any major problem with heat other than my electric fuel pump not liking to idle long distances. That's the other little project, a return line regulator set up.

Workin' on the boat this winter? Of course!
Let's see, just put in a water pressure gauge along with a relief valve and overboard dump fitting between the water pump and motor. I'm still getting some water in the oil but it has slowed considerably. Next step is to pull the intake off again and try some different gaskets and sealers. Might add a fuel pressure gauge just for grins. Last thing is a pair of rather large amps and a cd player just sittin' in the garage waiting for installation. I'd love to add a blower but that will have to wait for another year or two.

Brian are you running the same exhaust set up on the new boat as you did on the Cheetah? Donnie had some problems initally running too short of an elbow originally when he swapped motors over to the 25.

Nope, these are Lightning headers with dry tailpipes. Water enters the pipes behind the transom just before the mufflers. There is no evidence of water in the exhaust ports, plugs, or chambers. The leak is definitely internal to the motor because I've also disconnected my oil cooler to try to build some temp in the oil and also make sure that's not the entry path for the water. I'm pretty sure it's the intake manifold gaskets or possibly the intake itself. More testing to come...

I was excited about the new Whipple stage III package that would pull about 100 ponies out of my 496 mag but I think the close to $9000.00 price tag will scare alot of people away. I'll stick with the drive shower this year.
HEY DAVE, what's shakin'? ain't seen you around for a while. if haven't done it already EMPTY YOUR MAILBOX! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif did you get your oil and lower unit fluid changed? i'm about due to change mine so maybe you can give me some pointers. my outboard never need an oil change http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Hey guys..I know I've been gone for a long time but I back in full effect. Maybe you guys can help me out..On the 496 motors there is supposed to be a drain hose connected to the oil drain plug for the oil changes but I haven't been able to locate it as of yet. I should have changed it about 2 months ago but oh well.

Dave- On mine there is a black hose that is a couple feet long right by the oil filter and the ECU kind of behind the exhaust manifolds. hope that helps.
