View Full Version : LVHB 2nd Regatta

Hi all,
Just wanted to give you an update on whats going on with the 2nd regatta and the BETA event. We've decided to get the most bang for our buck, and to have the best event possible, to roll the LVHB 2nd Regatta into the BETA event 5/3/03 on Mohave! I'm really excited about this event and I think it will be a blast!
KC, LVAdv and I met up and discussed some of the details this weekend. There's quite a few surprises in store for you all http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif This should be a GREAT FAMILY EVENT! We're finish off the event by having an LVHB potluck at the Cottonwood Hotel in the late afternoon hours of 5/3.
More to come on that soon! Keep posted, we'll need lots of help and participation, remember this is a charity event, so it will cost a few bucks, but nothing outrageous. Something to the tune of 20 to 30$ for your poker hand, a lake map, and possibly a VHS video of the event mailed to you, similar to the one we did last year.
More to come as I said! Stay Tuned!
Greg

Left Las Vegas at 11:00, pulling into Torrance at 6:15, averaged 44 miles per hour in bumper to bumper traffic.... Â*I must be insane!!!
Anyways, Greg is right! Â*There are some great ideas for the event, details will be posted throughout this week - we now have a "kids" version of the poker run.... sorry, nothing for the dogs as of yet but we are working on it!
The ideas are coming down to the logistical considerations to pull them off, I'm fully dedicated to setting up the event site and the route for the poker run on the Thursday and Friday before the event. Â*
POKER RUN!
Currently, myself, Lakemead1, LVAdv and Livin Large are disqualified from collecting any winnings/prizes from the poker run because, well, we know too much.... you will find it challenging and fun. Â*Each boat participating in the poker run will receive a map of the lake, marked with a self guided tour for the poker run, so you can move through the "instructions" at your own pace as you make your way from Cottonwood launch to the event site. Â*The run will be timed but no prize for speed, prize for "closest to the average" speed. Â*A few more twists are involved......
There will be at least four marked stops to collect cards, some up and some down, as well as one unmarked spot to better your hand with a "drawn card". Â*The route/spots for the "kids game" will be identical as the poker route. Â*Bring your shoes because your going to have to get out of the boat to collect the cards.
We are setting a cap on the amount of boats participating in the poker run - 100 boats and 200 hands. Â*This is due in part to the costs and the level of involvement, as time moves forward these things could change for the better.
Rules for the poker run and the "kids" run will be posted over the next week. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
Additional requests for involvement and support will be posted over the next few weeks, everyone will have an opportunity to get involved and participate in one way or another.
Some things to think about...... Â*Find a charity, any charity, so that we can get them linked into the www.beexcellenttoanother.com website, and get them onboard for the event. Â*We need you, or a representative of the charity, to rep the charity on the day of the event. Â*Don't worry, no bright lights and michrophones, just conversations to explain what the charity is about and handing out literature - at the event site!!! Â*So, we got to get them there somehow!!
More later, KC

No worries....
Everyone from LVHB will be garranteed a hand for the poker run! Â*Just post and I'll add you name to the list of hand reservations. Â*
Be Excellent To Another
May 3rd, 2003 Â*- Â*Lake Mohave, NV - Cottonwood Cove Launch
Any number of boats can show up, but only 100 boats in the poker run since that is how many maps I have purchased to support the poker run. Â*The maps will be pre-marked with the stops for the cards as well as the location of the event site. Â*Each participating boat can purchase as many additional hands as we have cards layed out on the route.
Boats not participating in the poker run will be able to find the event site without a map, location will be clearly marked and visible for miles.
From a logistics point of view, Riverlife and I will be researching spots on lake mohave to support the poker run - then based upon "conditions" the actual spots will be determined and marked the day before the event. Â*Each spot needs to be sandy to avoid prop damage, participants will be required to get out of their boat to collect the cards. Â*A short "scavenger hunt/hike" will be involved for each spot, this will be a self guided self paced tour between the launch and the event site. Â*No prize for fastest time.
At each spot, participants will eventually find two boxes, one containing sealed cards for the poker hand and the other containing sealed cards for the "kids hand". Â*Most kids do not play poker, so we have another game for them to play.
The instructions for the poker run will be on one sheet of paper, following the instructions you should be able to find two additional ways to collect cards to better your hand, as draw cards. Â*Some cards up and some cards down.
The kids hand will operate in the same mannor on the same route, just a differnet objective.
SO............
To support 100 boats requires:
- 100 maps, customized for the day of the event, yet reusable for additional events or kept by the participant
- 1 starting point for sign-up, map distribution, start time stamp
- 1 finish point for finish time stamp
- multiple spots along the route to be set-up with markers
- probably 300 poker cards per route spot, assuming two-three hands per boat (2100 cards in total)
- probably 100 kids cards per route spot (700 cards in total)
- 2800 small envelopes for the cards
- pre-determined time and location at the event site to play the hand
Resources equate to:
- multiple days on lake mohave for recon
- full day to setup the route day before the event
- Sign-in, 2 people from 7-9 AM
- Sign-in, 2 pepole from 9-11 AM
- Finish timestamp, 1 person from 9-11 AM
- Finish timestamp, 1 person from 11-1
- Play the hand at 1 PM, six people and tables/clipboards
- Post results at 2 PM at event site, two people
- Draw raffle winners, 3 people at 1:30 PM
At sing-in, we will require basic name and address information, liability waiver. Â*No charge to attend the event, poker hands will have small cost, additional hands will have smaller cost - no charge for "kids hands" though kids over 16 not eligable for kids prizes.
This event has no budget other than contributions from individuals being time, funds and donations. Â*We are striving to bring forward a very high quality and well thought out event, without encurring too many costs to ourselves or the participants.
Probably looking at $25 for the first hand per boat, $10 for each additional hand, subject to change. Â*5$ of the first hand will go towards covering costs, the remaining amount going towards prize money.
SO......
The more boats attending and participating in the poker run, the larger the purse for the prize money.
Event involvement:
Each person on the producttion team will receive an embroidered t-shirt. Â*This includes the designers, people working the event in one of the roles described above, as well as people who come out to represent a charity.
Charity involvement:
There are two primary objectives at play here:
- an organized outing providing a forum to get togehter, mett others and have some fun
- raise awareness for charities
You can get involved by bringing or being an official/unofficial representative for a charity. Â* Being able to answer questions about the charity, its mission, and stuff... Â*in casual conversations with other boating enthusiasts. Â*From your charity, we need a minimum of 100 pieces of literature/brochure the represents the charity and provides contact information. Â*We need a minimum of SEVEN charities, each providing 100 pieces of literature.
Tired, going to bed,
KC
BADFISH II

Why do we need seven charities?
What portion of the poker hand and raffle ticket costs go to the charities? I would assume all of the raffle money. Can we make the first poker hand include a raffle ticket?
kc0000
12-05-2002, 07:27 AM
From a "literacure/brochure" standpoint we need a minumum of three, preferably five, or as many as seven charities. The literature will be used to support the poker run.
Raffle ticket included with "first hand", we can put anything into the "goodie bag" that is handed out to each boat/first hand.
As far as funds going towards charities, we can talk about the details in the next design meeting to be held in January.
Contributions:
- Raffle, 100% towards charities.
- Voluntary contributions, 100% towards a specific charity.
- Poker run, most going towards purse, winner can decide to keep or to donate.
Distribute the funds from the raffle evenly across all charities represented at the event.
Objective is to create awareness. Any funds collected are a bonus and hopefully any "contibutions" can be given directly to a charity representative. Do not want the logistics of collecting money.
Again, we do not want to spotlight any one charity nor force it down the throat of everyone attanding. If you have a charity that you want to work with and bring attention towards - then get them there! Get some literature (100) to me for the poker run!

Greg...
Sounds like you've been busy with "honey dos"... good for you.
I had an interesting weekend, wonderful actually.
I had been planning to go to Havasu this weekend for the parade of lights, even if it was looking like rain. Thursday I got a call from a good friend of mine asking me what I was doing on Saturday night, told her probably Havasu depending on rain. OK fine... an hour later she calls me and "tells" me that it is going to rain in Havasu this weekend, that I should blow off the trip, and escort her friend to a Christmas party on Saturday night. Lets see, blind date 101 or bright lights in the channel and the wrath of my friend Wende for the next few months, simple decision - I'm going because she would't ask unless it was important (actually did not want to encounter her wrath).
Ok, clean the truck, cloths, shoes, shower....
As if I was not nervous enough......
Pick the gal up at 6:30, met her mother and father visiting from the East Coast, met her two kids, ten year old Zackery and eight year old Alexis - then off we went to make the best of the evening........ I can sum everything up in a few words "the woman of my dreams", Karen is wonderful.
We had so much fun talking, people watching, dancing, everyone seemd to know that Karen was on a blind date.... what neither of us knew were how many people knew me from many years ago, small world. Anywyas, luckily Karen and her kids love to be very active and are not afraid of water - I think you'll be meeting them soon.

Good luck you guys, it is a lot of work. I helped with the first couple of AHBA runs in Havasu, it is lots of work! I like your price structure too. Well, it looks as though we are in for the LVHB regatta & BETA event!!!!!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Talked with Craig yesterday and looks as though we're in for sure and hope to talk Donnie and Chuck into it also!! Some of us are passing up the old tradition of going to the AHBA Spring run and going to Mojave the first weekend of May instead!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif We'll be getting a room in Laughlin, then trailering down to Cottonwood for the whole day Saturday. Can't wait!!

Glad you guys can make it! I still might, but it's going to be a play it by ear thing, depends on how the twins and mom are doing - and then it will be just for the day. I might just drive down in the moring, hitch a ride with one of you nice people, and drive back that night - I really don't want to miss it.

It looks as I am going to miss it. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif The Supercross is the same weekend here in Vegas, and I have not missed one in years, and I do not think the wife & kids are going to let me out of it.
can you head to mohave for the day and still make the supercross that evening?? greg, you're more than welcome to ride with us if you need to.

Greg, You are more than welcome on my ride as well. I will probably only have myself and a buddy. Of course you may have to buy the beer. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

WHAT?? OutCole'd, I think that's what THOR and I might do, hit the water all day, then haul ass into Vegas for closing round of Supercross. We'll see, but it's definitely doable! It's only 45 min. to an hour from Cottonwood to Vegas. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Out in the sun all day, drinkin beers, there is no way I would have the energy to head out to the supercross. If it was just me & some buddies, maybe, But dragging the wife & kids, I do not think it would happen. I have a room booked at Cottonwood cove that I am not going to need, so if anyone want's it, PM me and I will try to hook it up. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Believe me, I am going to hate to miss this one. I had a great time at the RRX regatta, and this one is going to be bigger.

Top speed currently 0 mph. Motor won't be back together until the 1st or so.
I'll say it will be over 100mph. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well, OutCole'd if you decide to give up your room you should leave it in your name and just collect money from someone. Cottonwood is weird about their f**king "lists", if you say you want your buddy to have the room instead, they will say, "Is he next on the list?"
Just some friendly advice from someone who knows that place all too well.
