Sunday December 1st, breakfast, yet to be determined location in the Las Vegas area

These initial meetings have been scheduled at the request of individuals who are interested in being involved to make the event something unique; more meetings can be scheduled in other areas just let me know and I'll be there.

The purpose of these initial meetings will be to communicate and evolve the overall design for the event on May 3rd, 2003. These initial meetings are for people who have the time to think through ideas, dream up logistical solutions to support the ideas, lay the plans and foundation to bring the ideas to life. Additional meetings will occur in January, February and April, objective of the later meetings being to actually bring the ideas to life.

Those who help others to make things happen
Those who watch things happen around them
Those who complain about what did not happen
Those who wonder what happened

If you associate with the first three categories of people listed above, then get involved as soon as you can, the sooner the better.

Last night was a great first meeting turn out. You guys and gal are really cool group of people. I think this event is going to turn out really well. A lot great ideas brought up, I like that that cove, it's a cross between the sandbar and steamboat. works for me! It's going to be great, finally a chance to camp out. We are working on insurance for the event, I should be able to provide policy information by the end of the week. Â*Most charities will require us to have insurance.

The only weekend that I am not available for recon on Lake Mohave is January 11-12.

LA Boat Show is February 15-23.

Jason, pick a weekend that we can hit Lake Mohave, then a second weekend for the Design Meeting. I will either mail the shirts this weekend or hand them out at the next Design Meeting to save the cost of shipping.

Alright girls! Here is my thoughts on what the course should be for the Poker Run (THOR and KevinMcD, pay no attention to this map, yours will be different! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ). This map is assuming the wind will be calm to none, so all boats can go this route.

In other poker runs I have done, they didn't actually use real playing cards, they used an index card. When you signed in, you were handed an envelope with info., stickers, etc. and your index card with a randomly picked suit and number on it. Then at each stop a quick game was played, ex.: dart throw, where you throw a dart at a board with all 52 cards on it trying to hit the card you want. Which ever card you hit was then written on the index card, repeated at the other stops. At the end of the run, the numbers and suits on your index card were your poker hand. Does that sound like how everyone else does it?
Anyway, Cottonwood sign-in would be the first "card", follow the arrows and each circle is another stop, ending at Owl Cove where the final "card" may be obtained whenever the driver chooses.

In case the wind is blowing that day, you would go straight from Cottonwood to stop 3, avoiding the Big Basin all together.

This would be pretty long, but not too long, IMO.

The hands in this run are going to be very unique, it will be a combination of treasure hunt and poker run. Â*Your going to have to use your wit to find the cards, your aswers to riddles could lead you in circles.

For everyone, the actual course will be determined and setup the day before the event, based upon water levels, availability of our "card spots", and the weather conditions. Â*The course will be between six and eighteen miles long, starting at Cottonwood and ending the the event site. Â*The card hands will have two draw cards to better your hand, if you can find them.

Each boat will receive a real map of Lake Mohave, witht eh event site marked on the map, and most of the card spots for the poker run.

Also, there will be a "kids hand" for those of you who do not play poker.

RL, can I make some suggestions here? Now maybe I'm just in the smallest boat out there, but I've been to Cottonwood about a dozen times. There has not been a time yet that I would turn right out of Cottonwood and go South on that lake. Just too big water for my boat.

If I could be so bold, I'd say skip points 1 & 2 after Cottonwood. Go North out of Cottonwood and go further up the river PAST Owl Cove. It's nice water up there.

If the wind is blowing, it's going to be a friggin mess anywhere South of Owl Cove...been there, done that at the last regatta. Everyone remembers how wet Gary and I were after coming back from our trip to Cottonwood.

That's why I said, "this map is assuming the wind is calm to none!" I too hate that basin on a windy day, however, I have caught it many times when it is sheet glass that time of year and nothing beats hauling ass across it when the water is like that. It is an awesome part of the lake to get A LOT of boats going REALLY fast. There are some neat places down there most people pass up. I also said, if the wind is kicking that day, then to skip that part and head North. I'm with you guys.
