I think that rumor got started when I was drinking http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Craig and I went to the lake last weekend, and had a great time.I got my fuel problem fixed with a simple bypass and now I am happy http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I got a couple of 100mph passes in..I don't think that I could live without that horsepower!

How you new ride? How fast? and when are you going out again?

Very glad to hear that! I would have been bummed if you sold that kickass 25 of yours.

Me, speed? Uh, you know, 70, 80, 90, whatever it takes! Really don't know for sure. Best pass to date was 5900 rpm on a 28p B1, 1.5 XR, ~93 on the Gaffrig. Haven't verified with the "humbler" (gps) yet so I'm still FOS at this point. Top speed testing has been difficult at best... Seems that every time I make a high speed pass, the motor fills with water and spews chocolate milkshake out of the puke tank. I think I have some water pressure "issues" to sort out still. That's my winter project. Next step is to change head gaskets (just to be sure), add a pressure regulator, and go test again.

Brian,
Do you have a low water pick up or an offshore style?
If is is a low water you will definatly need a pressure regulator at those speeds. I know that at about 95 I am building about15 to 17#'s of water pressure. I'm at over 20#'s at 100+
You might check with Craig he has the offshore pickups but I can't remember how much pressure he is running.
What kind of exhaust do you have?
When I had the water in the oil problem it was because my risers were not long enough(I know, thats what she said http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif ) and I was getting reversion.

Hope maybe some of that helps

Donnie

Brian

Drive is a low pickup XR, stock nosecone, X is about 3" below the center sponson. Exhaust is Lightning headers and jacketed 4.5" tailpipes extending through the transom. They dump the water into the exhaust just before the exit (behind the transom). There's no evidence of reversion in the exhaust ports. I run the "Super Cyclone" silencers from CP Perf because without them the thing kills my ears at idle.

How much water pressure does it take to cause internal gasket failure?

Thanks!

According to Larry Peto and Phil Bergeron, its becomes pretty iffy after 20#'s.
Have you taken the boat out and just ran it at about 2 or 3 thousand rpm? If so was there water in the oil then or only after high speed(high water pressure runs).
Mine would only get the reversion at high speed or pressure, thats how Larry finaly pinpointed it.

It started when I went from the small blower 94mph to the big blower 105mph or about 7 or 8 more pounds of water pressure.

Holy shit!! There goes the freakin' neighborhood over here at the LVHB board!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Good to have you over here also, Donnie!! I know this season is just winding down, but, I'm already looking at May dates for "Boy's Weekend!" Lookin' forward to seeing you guys sometime soon. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Btw, I think a trip next season to the "City that never sleeps" might be in order with the boats in tow. I'm ready for these LVHB regulars to show us Lake Mead, and maybe Olympic Garden and Cheetah's also!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Craig

Brad, it would be fun to do a winter trip. Check out Meade in the day and the tables at night http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Brian, are you running a water pressure gauge? If not, that'd be the first thing I look at even if it's only a temporary one. I run about 5 pounds at cruise and 10-15 at WFO http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I knew all it'd take was one good day of tearing around the lake at high speed with Donnie and that would put the deckboat issue to rest (for now)

Brian you going to make the Parade of Lights?

Craig

Has anyone there seen the new Nordic 26 Cat, thinking of buying one. anyone ran a 25-26 Cat 125-135 mph interested in how it handled at that speed, currently have a little Nordic Rage that runs OK but want to sell and get a faster Cat, planning on a few trips to the vegas area and havasu in 2003. Wayne, come on down and hang out for a bit! The fastest I've gone is around 100mph in my 22 ft. Essex

HAHAHAHAHAHA

No really it was in that Howard 26 Cat - Insane! I know Beach Bum know's someone with an elim or a dcb I think that does over 130 - he'd be a good person to ask.

Ok, call me a wuss, but I have zero desire to go that fast in a boat. Truth be known, I must be a WUSS too because that's faster than I want to go in a boat as well. Once the cheeks are flappin', that's fast enough!

welcome brian and donnie! i can see that donnie has a 25 daytona but i can't tell what you have brian. what motors are you two running? i think the boat you're talking about greg is a friend of BBum's. it's a 25 daytona that if i'm not mistaken has been radared at 133mph. that fastest i've ever been on the water was in BBum's boat at 84.4 on gps. BAD A$$!!!!!!! felt like a magic carpet ride. now if i could just to the lake i might be able to get my own ride past 65 http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Brian

Rude235, thanks for the welcome! My ride is a new 28 Magic Cat open bow with a n/a single carb 588 bbc (dyno'd @769hp/5700rpm). The motor came out of my old boat and has developed an internal water leak that I need to sort out this winter, so I'm more or less done for the season. Hopefully next year will better! I'll let Donnie fill you in on that nasty beast that's in his boat...

Whatcha got in your Daytona? Doesn't look much like a "rude235" to me with that Bravo hanging off the back!

10-21-2002, 08:51 PM
the daytona is a recent addition to the family. my other boat which is currently for sale is a nordic with a 235 evinrude. i just haven't come up with a new screen name yet. the daytona has a 500efi (that i promised would remain pretty stock until the warranty runs out). was your magic the one next to the monster tunnel being pulled by the freightliner?

Brian
10-21-2002, 09:01 PM
Yup, "minime" is mine... Some say that should be the name of the boat but I just can't bring myself to paint that on the back!

Craig

Hey Brian, are you going to have your boat back together for the Parade of Lights?

Craig

Brian
10-22-2002, 07:32 AM
Craig, it's kinda doubtful. I'm going to pull the engine out, pull the pan off, and pressurize the block/heads/intake with water to see exactly where the leak is. If it's something simple (gasket) then I'll fix it and put it back in. If it's not simple (corroded/cracked block or similar) then it's going to take much longer... Either way it will also give me a chance to fix the oil leak around the pan gasket at the same time.

Thanks Rude235,
My daytona has a Larry Peto 509,888 hp motor in it.
The best I have seen speed wise is 106 on gps at havasu in the winter, I'm hoping to get a little more out of it at the Parade of light on Dec. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I don't know why because Craig is going to be handing out ass wipins this year http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
