i'm the proud new pappa of a 25ft daytona with a 500efi. it was born on sunday morning at about 11:30am kicking and screaming for some high octane food. it weighed in at about 3800lbs. so i'm in desperate need of new screen name if anyone has any suggestions. see ya on the water!

Does it have a name? I though this may be a coming. Now you gotta put out and make baby elim's http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You bastard, I'm so jealous http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif congrats and a handshake bud, that's a sweet ride, so what's in it?

no, it's still nameless. we have several names we're kickin' around but nothing definite yet. it has a 500efi with the bravo 1 XR drive and imco external steering. i have no idea what top speed it's capable of yet. we had it out for a couple of hours on sunday but i didn't run it past 65. which is about 20mph faster than i was able to get my nordic (at least at mead). thanx for the congrats. we'll probably try to hit the water this saturday but not certain about that yet.

as far as picks go, i don't have a digital camera so i'll have to wait until i get the pics developed to post them. i promise to post them as soon as i get them back though. BBums boat and mine are almost the same. from what he tells me there are actually 2 models of the 25 daytona. there is a twin stepped hull and a single step hull. he's got the twin stepper and i have the single stepper. he's got me beat in the engine dept, he is running 650hp and mine is rated at only 470. that's how he's getting into the 90's. lv-advantage, you're welcome to a ride anytime. so what's the latest score on essex vs. eliminator anyway? my graphics are yellow and blue and look kind of like a lightning bolt along the side of the sponsons. this is my first i/o powered boat, so get ready for a ton of questions! and if anyone is interested my nordic is now for sale (duckbutter).

Get into the habit of checking your oil EVERY time you take the boat out, these big motors wash away more oil than they actually burn. Something to do with their consumption of fuel. KC

i've heard that before, that the merc BB like to go through their fare share of oil. is it hard to change the oil? the dealer that sold me the boat said it had 20-30 hours on it. unless they unhooked the hour meter it had about 2.5 hours! is it possible to disable the hour meter??? he just may have been mistaken by looking at the actual hours and the tenths?
if you look at the meter, the far right number has the white background. so if it really only has 3+ hours on it, what's the breakin rule of thumb for these motors?

kc0000
10-01-2002, 08:15 PM
think of it this way... if you drove your car in high gear and at 4000rpm - you would be clocking 80mph.... most auto manufacturers speak towards the first 1500 miles as being important... so after 20 hours on the boat you are just "broken in".

I have a 454 Mag sitting in the garage with 20 hours on it, everything looks like it is brand new including the cylinder walls - a compliment to better manufacturing process and tighter tollerances....

My uncle used to watch workers load 4x4 GMC trucks onto carriers after rolling off of the assembly line.... no doubt that those trucks were "broken in" before ever reaching the dealer floors.

Spin the motor gently for a while, take your time getting beyond the "no wake" markers allowing the motor to come up to temp before dropping the hammer.

Convert to AmsOil sysnthetic after 20 hours.

And please, please, please.... check your oil every time that you go out. For natural oil, change it at the end of the season and again at the begining of the season - that way seddiment does not collect on the bottom of the oil pan over winter, and the oil does not turn acidic from sitting too long over winter....

the grand total was 74K. That particular boat would run in the low 90's to high 80's. Very nice ride. I checked out the rigging as well, and it was top notch. 4-colors of gel coat at no extra cost. Triple stitching in the interior is standard. Gaffrig gauges.

We ran Amsoil in all of our drag cars and set a few national records with it while I was still racing. Haven't found a better oil yet. The good point is that you really don't have to change it if you do regular oil analysis either. There is some controversy about synthetics in the boating world with the likes of Bob Teague saying to not use it in a marine motor because of unusual wear, I think he said, of the roller rockers. To me, replacing roller rockers, if true, is a lot cheaper than replacing the lower end.

We used a trick to get about 30 - 50 more horsepower "in the lights" when we raced...we restricted the flow of oil back to the oil pan and intentionally ran the motor out of oil as we went throught the traps. Using a Moroso oil accumulator to supply oil when the oil pressure dropped to zero freed the oil pump from its parasitic hp losses. Also, we saw less spark scatter in the motor. (This was before electronic ignitions.) Never had any bearing problems with the Amsoil when doing this. Fantastic stuff! BTW...just for info's sake...I used to be an Amsoil dealer as well. That was in the late 70's to early 80's.
