View Full Version : Headers vs. Manifolds

I've been thinking about some exhaust upgrades and am trying to gather enough info to decide between headers or new "manifolds" for my 502. The motor is currently stock and at the most will someday have a blower. No outrageous build up or anything.

I want to be able to keep my silent choice operational. Anyone have any experience with either system or both?

Thanks.

RAF - I think just about any aftermarket exhaust will get you what your looking for....Eddie Marine, CMI, Lightening, etc. It mostly just depends on high much you want to spend. Anything is better than those stock things that came on it stock. They say that the 502's really like being able to breath and that any aftermarket exhaust will help.

I think Brad (Brad502) put some Eddie Marine's on his and said they really helped on the hole shot and mid-range and a little on the WOT.

Just my .02

CMI, Stainless Marine, GIL all make exhaust that will bolt up without any modification to your current system. Â*Eddie, Revolution, and Lightning will require some modifications. Â*Depending on what you want to spend, Eddie's and Revolution start out at $1K and go up from there with the mods you need to do to your silent choice. Â*CMI & Stainless have outstanding warranties with thier products. There is also Ebay, they have some killer deals on there sometimes...

Quit thinking about blowers and manifolds. You have kids to feed. Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/director.gif

Pros and Cons:

Tubular headers
Pros
Look terrific polished
Probably capable of making the most horsepower but will need cam and other mods to take advantage
Lighter than cast iron manifolds

Cons
Polishing to keep them looking the best
Cost more than most manifolds

Manifolds
Pros
Less maintenance
Cost less than headers
Less modifications to install

Cons
Less HP increase
Less future expandability (blower, cam, pistons, etc.)

That's my simple list

Thanks for the info. I've always been partial to CMIs. I'll most likely go that route if I can make my silent choice work. They make the engine compartment look way better than stock.
