SWEET! It's still a virgin huh? Hey LVHB, any advice on breaking that thing in? I remember I couldn't go full throttle for 20 hours, then had to do a 50 hour service, but I'm sure Duane at Essex told you that.
Great choice on the Essex!
jrgaudettes
09-09-2002, 08:26 AM
Yeah I delt with Alex @ essex and he said the same thing to me about 20 hrs....How true is that? and did you wait your 20 hrs?......Thats why i bought it now so i can get those hrs on before next season.
jrgaudettes
09-09-2002, 08:28 AM
Thx it was either that or an Eliminator but the Eliminator was a litttle more for the same boat.
BADFISH II
09-09-2002, 08:31 AM
I did wait the 20 hours, I think I didn't go over 40 or so.
You'll be super happy with that boat, no doubt.

I can't see the pictures either.
Re: 20 hour break in
Yes, I adhered to the 20 hour break in as well. No full-throttle and no cruising at one constant speed for extended periods of time. I would alternate the throttle position. I think the fastest we went was 40-45 in the break-in period.
Welcome to the Essex family.
I have issues:
1-I cant view the pics either
2-Me and BeachBum are going to start LVHB2 for Eliminator members. Is this an Essex board now or what? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I think - without having the Mercruiser manual here at the office - that you can take it up to 3000 rpm during the first 20 hours as long as you vary the speed. Also, short bursts over 3000 rpm are okay. This is from memory so check your manual. What did you get for a motor in the new boat? What is you boat number as you can look on the Essex website for it as well if you know th boat number.

20 hrs man you guys have alot of patience. Â*I thought someone told me to idle 15 min to seat the rings(or something like that), then Â*run it for a couple more hours like a break in. Â*Than open it up.

Thx essex505 & LV-advantage for the info. The motor is a 350 mag bravo three. Was looking @ the 6.2 377 but didnt seem worth the extra money for 20 horses. So we upgraded the stereo to there Platnium series It sounds good but I think It could sound better. Anyway thx for the break in info ill read the manual and take it easy @ first.

JR, my 200 Sterling is a 350 MAG with the Bravo III drive as well. I have had ZERO motor problems. It's in the shop right now for a little tach problem, as in tach not working, but the motor has always been stout and runs fine. I love that it is turn-key.

only the 454, but do have the bravo 3 which makes a huge difference in torque. No problem pulling wakeboarders or a tube with 6 people and a full ice chest of silvers http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I had it at 64 on speedo on Mohave with 7 people in October. So, it was probably closer to 60. Speedo's are notoriously false and optimistic.
So far as skiers are concerned, it depends on how good the skier is. I've had some pop right out and I've had some have trouble. It's all about skill level.
