23K on an 03 Yukon. Noise in steering. Took to dealer and states steering shaft going out. Had to order part and will take six weeks. They also claim there is "250,000" steering shafts on back order. I've never heard anything like this. Any info?

Yep, ours did the same exact thing, same year and all. They were able to lube ours and the noise went away and has not come back. I bet it was about 10k miles ago when it happened.

Good luck.

Thanks!! Appears to be a problem with GM. Anyway, I'll settle for a new shaft.

Wasn't there a GM recall recently involving steering and brkes or something like that? Dan?

Nevermind, looks like it was the brakes then affecting steering.

Summary:
CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, PICKUP TRUCKS, AND PASSENGER VANS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 135, ?PASSENGER CAR BRAKE SYSTEMS.? SOME OF THESE VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITH AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION BRAKE HYDRO-BOOST HOUSING RELIEF VALVE BORE.

Consequence:
CONSEQUENTLY, THE VALVE O-RING SEAL MAY FRACTURE. STEERING EFFORTS MAY BE SLIGHTLY INCREASED WHILE BRAKING OR PARKING. UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, A FRACTURED SEAL MAY REQUIRE A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT TO ACHIEVE THE SAME VEHICLE DECELERATION RATE AS PRIOR TO THE SEAT FRACTURE.

yeah that steering shaft is a little hard to get right now.
"going out" is absolutely INCORRECT... they are noisy where the shaft halves spline together. The new shaft will correct it. The lube as stated prior will also take care of it but it may come back. We started replacing those shafts when they came up with a new part #.
Which dealer ordered it? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dunno.gif
My brother is a GMC parts guy in LV.
The 6 weeks part is BS. If they do a SPAC case it SHOULD come in a reasonable amount of time...

These are the guys who said 6 weeks. Looks like part number: 88963611. As always You Guys" on the board always come through with the right info!!!

either way SPAC case will get it the quickest.
its also perfectly ok to drive it forever like it is. mine has rattled for 70,000 miles and I haven't replaced it just out of laziness.

Yep. That's what the service writer said. Guess he was right on that one. No..... I'm in ONT. Did live in Vegas a number of years ago as a young kid. Still remember some of "the old entertainers" and some of the old sights. Thanks again and hope to see a number of you at the LA Boat Show.

You drive it like that http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/Wow1.gif
Um, its for the t-gate cables....it kinda sucks when they snap while your boat biatch is standing on there and bends the shit out of your tailgate.
When you come out to CA for a catalina run I'll take care of it. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/beerchug.gif
