RC - So I am thumbing through my latest issue of FPB and came across the article on your 100 hour service at Maveric Marine. Congratulations! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Great pic of your motor. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Just a couple of things I noticed while reading through it....

1) "This boat has exactly 98.5 hours on it and it ran in OVER-REV condition for nine seconds". http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

2) "A vane is broken off the impeller and pieces of it are lodged in the passageway....." http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif It looks like two vanes to me but still I would recommend changing that sooner than 100 hours next time. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Other than that...nice write up. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thanks! That shop really did great work for me.

I guess with the 496HO 23P Rev-4 and the Tremor, I can spin the motor a little to high when conditions are cooler.....No guts no glory right?

I think what caused my impeller to take a dump was an early season launch out of Needles marina. They really need to dredge the marina entrance. I probably sucked up a little sand and that wiped my already aged impeller.

The mechanic said they have seen a substantial amount of wasted impellers on the 496's so far with less hours than mine. They strongly recommended changing it at least once per season. I carry a spare impeller but I've been thinking about purchasing an entire pump housing to carry in the boat just in case....

Its downright scary how much information is stored in the engine's computer! I was there when they summarized how I ran my motor to date. Their comments were I have 2 throttle positions - 3200-3400 rpm and WOT! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif:D:D:D

Yes, it is! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif No way to hide an over-zellous throttle hand while still in the break-in hours. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Those are my two positions, too! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif What's the sense in having it if you ain't going to use it? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

The sea water impellor. Is there another one? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif

I kept the wasted impeller for my "wall of shame" in the garage! LOL! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I totally agree with ya KMCD - whats the sense in having HP if your not gonna break it out once in a while! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well, there is one in the drive and one in the recirculating pump. I may be calling them by the wrong names though. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I've always changed the impeller every year on the advice of Teague when I first had it serviced there. Cheap insurance.

To my knowledge there is only one water pump impeller in a Bravo drive set up. Its driven off the engine.

Alpha's have an impeller inside the drive but not off the engine

Are we talking about the one that is in the front of the motor?

THOR - Like RC stated...on the Bravo setup there is no impellor in the drive, only on the Alpha is it that way. With the Bravo there is an impellor (sea water pump) that is run off the belts on the engine usually on the lower left hand side of the engine AND there is a standard water pump that you would see on a car/truck.

I know what you are saying now. That is what I was talking about too.
