Where's a good place to do some water testing? This will be my first time out on the water over here, and I want to do some testing. It's a new boat to me, so I want a place with not too many people around, smooth water and no hidden (underwater) objects.
Can anyone suggest a good place? Which ramp would I put in at? I would like some place that I can do some handling/driving work to get acclimated to the new boat. BTW, it should run in the low 100's, so I need some room. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
Keith, Lake Mead in the early morning is usually mellow. I would launch at Calville Bay and let it rip. Head north through the narrows and you'll open up to a bay that you almost can't see across.

Okay, thanks! Â*I've been out from Cauville once or twice with friends. Â*I remember at the exit we went right (not sure if that was N or S) and it got rough going across to the other side. Â*Smooth again on the other side though.
I'll probably be doing my prelim stuff on a Thursday or Friday so I don't imagine it will be busy during the week. Â*Thoughts?
BTW, are there any good maps or books of Mead/Havasu that I could get?

I have an excellent map - I'll get you the name of the company that makes it and you can call and get one for like 8$. I plan on selling them on the site eventually.
Also, You can probably print the map on this site right now if you right click on it and save it to your hard drive. Go to lakes/mead/map.
I would say callville is the best right now too, I don't know for sure, but I do know they're doing alot of work on it to get it ready for the poker run next weekend.

If you launch from Calville, be careful if you go to the right towards Las Vegas Wash. the water is very low ont the right side heading to the wash. Stay out towards Boulder Bay. I agree, you are way better off going left towards the narrows.

Thanks again guys. Let me know on that map and I'll go get one.
I'll be driving to Toronto Canada to get the boat Memorial day weekend and plan to put it on the water on the 30th of May.
I'm also going to Laughlin for the F1 race at least on Sunday that weekend...anyone else going?

You'll also need a co-pilot!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Also, if the water level at Mead does not improve by the time your ready, with a little extra driving (45 min. or so) you can go to Mojave, I just got back today and the water was pretty high. Also not crowded and plenty of smooth spots for speed runs. No underwater rocks or trees that like to jump up and bite your prop either! My $.02
Congrats on the new boat, and welcome to the boards!!!

Thanks J. For the first weekend out, my dad is flying out. He's had 2 of these before, with the slower one only running 107. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif He's an ex- J-production racer anyway, and I'm going to get some schooling, so the co-pilot seat is already filled.
In the future though...Sure Thing!

Maybe you need a chaser too, At least to get some great pics for the site. Let me know when and I'll try to hook up with you out there to get some footage of your speed runs.

Essex = 68 mph.

I'll just have to get a good lead http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I think some pics of that would be cool for the site.
I'm not quite 68, closer to 66 I think http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Nonetheless, I'll chase!
