Me too. The orange will kind of look like it is fading under the blue. Ultra does a really good job on their gels so I feel pretty comfortable letting them do what they need to. Also, I am going with the pueter (stainless looking) bezels, gauges, cup holders and swim step inserts. It should come out pretty cool.

I honestly don't know. I think the rev limiter is at 5200, but that is a guess. Probably somewhere around 5150-5200.
Your boat is going to haul ass. The fastest I have been in my boat is 70 on gps, and it felt like I was doing a hundred. I still had a ways to go with it, I am just tring to get at least 4 hours on it before I run it wide open. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
They have tested my hull with the 496 mag and a 25p and it ran 74 mph. I plan on running a labbed 27P. Steve said that is a rare setup in my boat because most run a 24p and have the non-HO 496. If I push the 27P at 5000 rpm I will be happy. My old boat ran just under 70 and that seemed fast. The fastest I have ever been in a boat was 135 and it was awesome.

I have not given it much thought on a new prop. The boat takes a bit of throttle to get up on plane, so I am sure it would be worse with a bigger prop. Sure I could gain a few more MPH, may have to try it down the road just for giggles.
Thor, what interior layout are you going with? Cuddy/open or closed bow??

I went with the walk through. I am not a fan of the cuddy. One side will be pure storage and one will have a cut out for a cooler. But, both will house my 12" subs. BTW, this stereo will blow away my last one that one the stereo contest in havasu for under 1000W.

On my boat, they put a block off plate so my motor only draws water from a pick up tube, not through the drive.
why such a large prop? i can't wait to see the real deal thor, it's gonna look SMOKIN'!! the fastest i've ever been in a boat is the mid 80's in beachbum's daytona. that's livin' life on the edge huh??
What do you mean? Is that a really large prop? You must remember that my boat weighs 3300 lbs and has 425 compared to some models that weigh well over 4000 with 415 (i.e., 502) hp. I know that my buddy's Eliminator 25' Eagle runs right at 70mph with a 24P and a 502 but that is it. It also weighs about 4300 lbs. With about 1000 lbs less and more HP it should bump me up at least 2 pitches in prop.

There might be more to to prop selection than weight and hp, don't ya' think? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Hull efficiency? X-dimension? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Yep, but I didnt want to get into that and start defending all you calling BS on ole THOR here. The x dimension is a tad high, it has a double step hull, the hook is taken out, etc. John has reworked the hull since he got it from DCB and it is a little faster. Normally, folks run a 24P or 25P with a 496 (non HO). My prop will be balanced and labbed as well. I fully expect to push a 26P at least since that was tested on my boat with the same motor and it ran in the high 70's. I will call John and Steve and ask if they lied to me. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Thor,
Love the design, I'm sure it's going to turn out great.
The 26p bravo is probably going to be a great prop for that boat. I have a 24p on my Howard with the HO motor and can bump the rev limiter with a light load. The only reason I haven't tried the 26p is I don't want to give up the hole shot for sking and tubing etc. Your boat being lighter and having the steps should have no problem with the 26p.

If the prop is labbed you should be able to turn 5100 or so RPM with the 26P and the 496HO.
As to "high" 70's...with 10% slip and 5200 RPM and 1.5 gears in the Bravo 1 and a 26P equates to 76.8 MPH.

I was told the rev limiter was 5150 rpm, I think one of the guys at Teague told me that. So if Thor has heard 5125rpm that sounds about right. Merc's recommened rpm range on that motor is 4600 to 5000rpm and you should prop your boat so with the average load (beer, gas, kids, friends) you can run at or very near the top end of that range. If your only running at 4700rpm you might want to consider getting your prop worked to get a few hundred more rpm out of it.

Essex said to expect to see about 70 but I think that is very optimistic as it is a very heavy boat. Truthfully, and y'all can call me a wussy, but I don't care about going balls-to-the-wall. Cruising between 40-50 is fine with me. Your absoluty correct, the Nordic is heavy and my 26p does put on a good load - 4600 to 4700 is my max RPM with the 26p. Next weekend I'll have to throw on my 24p to see if there is any real difference in the max RPM, top speed and hole shot.
The 26p gave me a better hole shot with the same top end as the 24p - the 26p had better grip coming out of the hole where as the 24p seems to slip due to the weight of the Nordic.

No Rude, not you at all.
Kev, of course you are right. You barely pull a 24p with a 4500 lb boat, so that naturally means I cant pull a 26 with more HP.
KC's boat weighs at least 5000lbs and he is trying to snow us all into thinking his is spinning a 26P. Now, I didnt say it before, but I call total bullshit all over that. His sled wont even get on plane with a 26. That prop is either mis-stamped or he is lying to all of you. Either way, it wont pull a 26p.

I still say I can get close to 73 in the right conditions.
I am not calling BS on your numbers that you are posting....I personally think you will be able to pull a 26p. You are probably right. Oh, I almost forgot, the factory can reset the rev limiter on the HO to 5400 rpm now too. I thought I would keep that as a hole card, but I guess I'll let you all know.
26P at 5400 w/ 10% slip = 79.8 mph
Dr. Marg is probably right. Ultra lied to me and to everyone else by posting in the mags and on the website that the 247 weighs 3300lbs. I will only go 70 mph guys, dont you worry.

Just for some point of reference. My 25 Tremor can turn a 23P Rev-4 and Labbed bravo 1 24P 5,150 rpm with the 496 HO. Never tried a 26. But a labbed 25P Mirage Plus 3 blade = 4,900 - 5,000 rpm. But the hull is estimated to weigh in at 4300 lbs. But I know mine is heavier. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Of course I know. I almost went with the 377 w/ a whipple. Now that would be fun. But, there just isnt enough torque with that little motor. I plan on running my 496 into the ground for about 5-6 years, then I will get a blown Teague motor with over 1000HP so I can finally turn that 26P I have always wanted. LMMFAO

Torque curve would show you that the torque is dropping after the torque peak which, I would guess, would be somewhere around 3K RPM or so...What you prolly (sp) want to see is the HP curve which peaks at a much higher RPM.

How did you find out that the 496Ho can be retuned to run at 5400rpm? Who does this?
The Motorola box can have the rev limiter reset by an authorized dealer only. It can go to 5400, but you will start to lose power.
Scott, I think you have a 26p. I change my oil @ 25hrs. Mobil 1 . I know a HP500efi with 650+ hrs. I put 155 hrs on mine last year. I expect 650 or more with no problem. You will be fine for lots of years. Gas, oil & go. Keep a eye on the oil, the race motors run skinny rings & more piston to wall clearance. It will use aprox. a qt. in 5 hrs. until it runs in, so check it every day until you know the usage. The 525 rips.

Ford & GM don't (to my knowledge) test your oil before allowing you to claim a warrentee problem with the motor, perhaps you know someone on the Ford or GM racing team who can comfirm this.

Rivertoys call Mercury your self no drilling need by friends. Just ask for tec service. (920) 921-5330 just have the call billed to my home number, it's a toll call. Since the warranty applies to defects in material and workmanship, it dosn't apply to normal worn parts. #3 , (1 & 2 don't apply) Operation with fuels, oil, or lubricants witch are not suitable for use with the product. No where does it state you have to use our oil. Hope this clears up the oil deal.

That all makes sence! The Merc Master Machanic that did my last service got a little bent out of shape when I told him I used Penzoil last time. He said that I had to use Merc oil while still under warrentee (which I don't think I am anymore - but was at that time). He said he has to send a sample of the oil to Merc along with any claims for engine parts failure. Maybe he just feels the best way to guarentee that the oil you're using meets the merc requirements is to use their oil. I'll ask him next time though. It's not a price thing either, because this guy is the most reasonably priced, with the best service I've ever encountered.
I appreciate this being clearified though!

Just remember that Merc is notorious for finding reasons for not standing behind warranty. Keep all of your paperwork on all service/maintenance and all input re: oil and etc. Then you have doc.s to hold their feet to the fire if something occurs and you require warranty service.

The burden for proof of inadequate oil is on the manufacturer or was in the auto industry. If you have receipts for the oil you purchased and if you keep an empty bottle (used to be cans - huh?) to prove that the SAE markings are the same then you're covered.
KC_Nelson

In the USA, when a manufacturer recommends an oil then that is all that it is, a recommendation. If the manufacturer requires that you use their oil, such as Harley has attempted, then the manufacturer must supply you with that oil and must also be responsible for the recycling/collection of the oil when you are finished with it – after all the oil is theirs.
Being close to the automotive and motorcycle business, the manufacturer that I work for can not require the consumers or dealers to buy any additional/special items for a product sold – unless they are willing to lease it to the consumer/dealer for a specific period of time.
My 496HO has that Mercury 25w40 stuff in it, after I use up the case that I have left then I’m going with straight 40w or 50w. When my outdrive bearing went – the tech was very adamant that my spare bottle of oil in the engine bay was Mercuiser Gear Oil, and that was all that I had ever used to top off the drive. Mercruiser would not commit to a replacement until after they had examined the drive, who knows if they sampled the drive oil. Comes down to risk management…. Their oil better be good because the warranty is important to me!
Wish I knew what grade of crude Mercruiser starts with?

it's called the Magnuson-Moss Act of 1975. it states that you can use ANY motor oil either conventional or synthetic that meets the correct viscosity grade service classification. it also states that extending the drain intervals cannot void the warranties. and besides that, if your manufacturer were to deny the claim and it was deteremined to be an oil related failure, amsoil would step in and repair or replace the equipment.

Was that the new Cray XMP Portable? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Those are really cool. Especially with the new Binford Extended WiFi. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Although, I think I still prefer the XD1 or SX-6 but portability is key on the boat. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
