Rivercrazy

I subscribe to the "if you carry extra parts you boat won't break down" theory! Â*
Sea water pump impeller
Serpentine accessory belt
Plastic prop hub, prop nut, locking washer
Tools
Duct Tape!
Hose clamps
Engine, drive, and hydraulic fluids
Rags
First aid kit
For towing I carry:
Extra engine and trans oil
Spare tire
Lug nut wrench
Bottle jack
Wheel chocks
(I need to get an extra set of axle bearings/spindle)
What I am missing from this list?

Don't think there is enough room to work on the 496 in the water.

If you ever need to work on a 496 then you REALLY need to return the boat to the manufacturer..... http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Another obsessive list:
Boat --
flashlight and highpower light
binoculars http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/stare.gif
wine corkscrew
automatic lighter gun (for the grill)
can opener
10 gallon container of distilled water (also hooked up to the sink) but carry regardless in
case I'm stranded and out of beer http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
extra pins, nuts, bolts, screws, clamps, etc. for the bimini and all manner of seat, antennae, engine hose, and etc. parts
toolkit with all manner of screwdrivers, wrenchs, pliers, hammer (the most important item), plastic and wire ties, a screwdriver with a light contained in the front end to shine on what I
am working on and in the center a 2 ft + rod with a magnet in the end that telescopes out
to grab stuff (invaluable when trying to put something together at night all lubricated up and
I drop stuff down in the engine compartment), etc. and etc.
metal file for the drive skeg ... has come in handy when I break and bend it up and the
prop is hitting the bent skeg ... I then bend and file down to get home
extra plugs for the transom (there are three, one in each tunnel on my rig and I have put the
thing in the water so many times without them in, I'm paranoid of one going when on the
lake) I have also drilled the plugs and put a screw in one end and a wire fish tie from plug
screw to a large stainless O ring inside the transom. This way the plugs are always attached
to the boat when loose or out.
A REALLY IMPORTANT ITEM FOR SOME OF YOU FOLKS ... rubber plugs for the water intakes
in the hull for showers and water hoses. There are little rubber flap seals in these intakes
and they only last about 4-6 years in the elements. If they go, the boat will fill up and sink.
Another paranoid addition to the stuff on board.
fiberglass kit with instant seal properties
glue (no not to sniff, but to mend plastic parts)
bar of soap (no not to attempt a bath in the lake) -- this is a nice safety feature if you develop a crack in a fuel line or other rubber line. Drop in the water soap it up and rub it in the crack. It will keep the fuel from leaking out until you return to port.
extra drive and engine oil
WD40 and Silicon Spray Lubricant
marine clean all and distilled h2o+vinegar for cleaning
a bunch of rags and towels
extra prop set (and a prop wrench)
3 anchors (one box, one danforth, and one spike)
extra lines (no not drugs, but rope)
3 gallon bucket
manual siphon/bailer
lifejackets of various types + throwables
2 fire extinguishers (shake these up and tap on them once a month to keep operational)
3 paddles (had to use these once when I ran out of gas about 200 yards from the dock one
evening)
large inflatable tube (for kids when towing, but also handy if stranded somewhere)
1 boathook
2 side bumpers
installed a direct access electric outlet + outdoor cord with a GFI switch for plugging in my
electric system to charge
jumper cables (I usually forget and leave these in the truck back at the dock)
huge first aid kit with all manner of stuff (wife is a nurse) including a saline needle and IV (for
dehydration ... hopefully not due to alcohol consumption)
built in electronic water hose and pump + manual water pump (also for air)
built in ship to shore radio
Trailer --
large floor jack on rollers and +type lug iron to fit all sizes (blew a tire without this stuff and
would have been stuck in the desert for awhile if not for a kind family with tools to help
fix a flat ... have had in the truck ever since and never used)
spare tire
extra lug nuts
axle grease
tire pressure gauge
can of inflate-a-tire
extra pins for trailer ball lock (I lost the trailer once coming down the hill right before the Lake
Mead Marina turnoff and dug the trailer under the Suburban ... wrecked the front ladder and
bent up all manner of stuff ... am now paranoid about locking on the ball)
chocks for all trailer wheels
On-Star Chevy emergency system for when all else fails
There's probably more junk to the lists, but all I can think of for now http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

Rivercrazy ... you're right on ... I f$%k something up, or something breaks, I'm stranded without what I need, and I then obsessively buy something so that the next time it happens I am prepared. Whatever I am prepared for NEVER breaks again ...
+ my wife grew up in the midwest and was never around water much growing up ... makes her feel safe each time I buy something to "protect" us from being stranded. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

This is really good stuff everyone! I'm headed to Harbor Freight tomorrow to buy one of thos super nice race jacks to place into the back of the truck.
I need to learn how to replace the impeller, seems that might be a good thing to carry.

We usually get on the water pretty early - I would expect to be there bu 10:00 or so.
Now it turns out one of our appointments got rescheduled so we'll probably be on the water Friday no later than noon as well.

A heavy duty tow chain. One about 15 feet long. You can also use it to chain up an axle if you have a bearing fail or mutiple flat tires. Most tandem axle trailers will carry it load on one wheel if you chain up the axle so it will not drag on the pavement.

Because, whatever I end up breaking, I'll have every tool except for the one I need to fix the problem.
