Erich - Are you still alive? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif What is the scoop with your motor? Did you pull it a part to see where the water was coming from? Give us an update and pics, too. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yes I am still around thanks for asking. We have been very busy at work lately (we usually take two weeks off at Christmas and New Years, this year we only took off Christmas and New Years). As for the boat I changed the oil when we got back, and got new gaskets which i still have to replace. By the way does anyone know what the timing should be on a BBC, tunnel ram, single Holley, Headers (the one in my boat). I want to know the specks before I start, I may ask over at Hot Boat. Thanks in advance for any advice. Erich

Glad to see you are still around. As for the timing....I am sure Trouble Maker would know the answer to that one. If it is the same as a SBC....10 BTDC/32-35 BTDC (initial/total). http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

OK here is the problem. Water was entering the engine through the exhaust. There is a check valve that keeps water from the headers at idle, I pulled it off and found it to be in sad shape the spring was rusted almost all the way through and the seat for the ball looked like it had been hammered on.
So Ill get a new check valve and go testing before summer http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif that way if it dosent fix it Ill still have time before the regatta http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There's an article in the new Hot Boat about a MSD ignition that I think recommended 38° total degrees advance for a 454. They dialed in, I believe, 28° into the distributer and used 10° on the initial advance. That's my memory. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Best thing to do, is since all engine setups are different, is to do some trial and error. Start with 10* initial and experiment with the total. Keep advancing it a little at a time until you start to get some detonation...then back it down a little and call it a day. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Glad to hear it might be something that simple. Let us know if it works.

The question on timing was because I thought I would have to pull the intake and heads. I am not going to mess with it if the water regulator solves the water in the oil problem. thanks for the info
