Hi all,
I'm thinking August 3rd would work out best because it's far enough in advance to get more boats, and it's the middle between 4th of July and Labor Day. That's what I'm shooting for unless there are any major objections.
Also, I think Mojave will be the lake of choice. We're going to organize it as a day trip, but we'll probably campout somewhere and if any of you would like too consider that also.
I sent another email to Kevin from Hot Boat. I feel we can get 15 boats together for this and that's what I'm shooting for, but I'll need a ton of participation so I hope all of you can make it. I'll let you all know when I get a response. I want to keep the date slightly flexible in case it doesn't work out for Hot Boat.
Please respond below if you can make it, and what type/length of boat you have if I don't already have that info or it isn't in your signature.

Yeah, whenever/wherever. Boat, well, you know. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
sounds like a good plan to me. i'd have to get directions on how to get there or follow someone down there. my boat is a 20ft nordic viking. so how do you put a pic of your boat in with these things anyway?

Rude, go to your control panel, then personal info, and it's down at the bottom. Try that.

Rude, if it's going to be at Mojave (cool place), I'll likely put in at Willow Beach. If you take the 93 across Hoover dam, it's about 13 miles down on the right. Nice launch ramp with a marina and small convenience store. It's about 20 miles to Cottonwood from there by water. Nice smooth run down the river.
I was down there a few weeks ago and there is a nice cove on the AZ side just before getting into the big water. People were camping and it looked like a nice spot.

No problem for the third. We'll put in at Cottonwood, I hate fighting traffic over the dam, and camp for the weekend. I'll tell my non-member boating buddies to try to get the boat count up.
I've got to get the weekend off, but it looks like I will be able to make it. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Sweet LVAdvantage - I can't wait to see it. That's the boat I want if I ever step up, can I bum a quick ride on that bad boy?
So Greg,
I've got an idea. You sell me your Vortex and get that 25 Citation. I put my boat on the market and am looking. I drove a Vortex at the Regatta this last weekend. Nice boat. Unfortunately my budget is closer to $40k at this time so we'll see. I'm also looking hard at the Shockwave 21 step skier. They also make a nice boat and can get it for about $42k with the 6.2, which is about $8k less than the Vortex.

Riverlife, can you give Runnin a Fever some directions since you know the lake the best of all of us?
Runnin a Fever - Super stoked you can make it! We're at 18 boats now. Do ya think we can badger Waterndog into changing his weekend at the lake to 8/3 so he can make it too??

I did not look at the Shockwave, have not really heard anything about them, but there is a reason that the Essex is $8k more. I'm pretty sure Greg will agree with me. Bottom line, budget and what you like dictates what you buy.
To some extent I wish I would have ponied up the additional money for the 22 Vortex or the 23 Monarch, but I LOVE my 21 Sterling. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It doesn't get any easier. Take 95 North to I-40 West, to I-95 North. At Searchlight, make a right to Cottonwood Cove (there is a sign). That's it.
BADFISH II
06-26-2002, 01:14 PM
either that or go to laughlin, launch at katherine landing, and cruise up the lake to Cottonwood - I'm not sure how long it it, but I'm guessing less than 40 min's by boat.
RiverLife
06-26-2002, 02:07 PM
I feel like a little kid right now! I can't wait!!!!!! I just got back from Cottonwood (like 3 : 00 am this morning!!!!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. It was very nice, about 105 - 113 everyday. Greg, and anyone else, we need to do a scouting trip there soon to plan out the event!
OK, I'll do directions here from everywhere to Cottonwood, Willow, and Katherine:
from Vegas to Willow:
- 515 across Hoover Dam, 93 south (on AZ side) about 10 miles to the Willow turn off (to the right). Then a VERY nice ride (left out of the marina) to Cottonwood (about 40 min.)
from Vegas to Cottonwood:
- 515 to 95 south (NV side) toward Needles/ Searchlight. Make left in Searchlight at the Nugget casino (about 40 min.) then down the hill (another 15 min.)
Havasu to Cottonwood:
- 40 toward Needles, 95 toward Vegas, make a right at the Nugget casino in Searchlight. About 2 hours total. **** I don't recommend launching at Katherines for two reasons: (1) it is the "Havasu" of Mojave..... it gets VERY crowded, and (2) if the wind blows, the basin from Katherine to Cottonwood can be like an ocean, big boys only.****
SoCal. to Cottonwood:
- 15 north, exit Nipton Rd. (about 15 min. before Primm) take it all the way through Nipton and go straight through the stop sign at Searchlight. About 45 min. total once you get off the 15.
SoCal. to Cottonwood part 2:
- ..... or, you can take the 15, to the 40 east, to the 95 north, make a right in Searchlight at the Nugget casino. This way adds a little time to the drive but there is a hell of a lot less traffic this way, especially if you have to come out Friday night!
Hope that covers everyone, and hope it's clear. This is going to be one for the books. Everyone get your boats dialed and have your digitals ready!!!!! OP6 what??!!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hey RL, did you see Pickle the Load out there? He's got the blue/green/white 19' Ultra jet boat with the 540" Chevy in it. His family was renting a houseboat and he was supposed to be there from Sunday through Thursday.
That's another boat I lost to at OP6. Too much prop and too much weight. If only I could afford my own gas, I'd go one-up and really have some fun. It's hard to race with 3 people and a cooler in the boat. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That's the primary reason we will be driving to Cottonwood. My 21 handles the chop great but, we went thru the basin when the wind was blowing and it SUCKED! It was like an ocean in there and no 21 can handle that.

Keith, yep saw him. That boat "sounded" bad ass, but he wasn't able to go very fast because of the chop Monday. I could tell it was killing him having to go slow because every once in while he would see a smooth part and nail it, but then lauch off a wave because he couldn't slow down enough.................. but I was doing the same thing! I hate that damn wind. Sorry I missed you on Saturday, I got there pretty late Sunday.

Just a little news for those of you planning on coming out to Cottonwood the 3rd. The Motel at CC is already booked up, however they have two good sized campgrounds, and an RV park with full hook ups and lots of coves to camp in. It would be nice if someone was able to get there a day or two early to try to save a big chunck of one or the other (either a bunch of campground spaces togeather, or a large cove, I can show you a good one! ) I myself won't be able to get there until Friday afternoon but I think I can launch before it gets dark.
All campground sites, and coves are first come first serve of course.
Lets rock and roll!!!!!!

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, I've been mucho busy. The phone number is (702) 297-1464 for the motel. They told me they were booked for that weekend, but you could be put on the waiting list. People usually book like a year ago, so when the day actually comes they can't make it, so the list moves along. This page (http://www.riverlakes.com/cottonwood_aerial_view.htm) is a good page for any info you may need on the lake (as well as every other spot on the Colorado River). Like Greg said, I am going there this weekend and will take lots of pics to post so you guys have an idea of what to look for and expect.

- Â*head back to the marina after the shoot (whoever wants to)
Â* for lunch. Â*The marina usually cooks up a barbeque lunch.
- Â*possibly cruise up to Hoover dam sometime after lunch
Â* (around 2: 00 pm). Â*It takes about an hour from CC but is
Â* a breathtaking ride, beautiful scenery. Â*A lot like Devil's
Â* Elbow (is that the right name?) near Havasu, but for about
Â* an hour.
Sunday:
- Â*more of the same, but this time possible head the other
Â* direction out of CC to Katherine, or just hang out in a
Â* secluded area and relax.
** Â*keep in mind, the only thing we have to do as a group is
Â* Â* the photo, everything else is just suggestions of what I
Â* Â* am going to do, and what I think is fun to do on this lake.
Â* Â* Of course after the shoot you can do whatever you want.
Camping / Hotels
- Â*I think some people are planning on camping in coves, others are going to try the hotels or campgrounds. Â*There is only one hotel at CC which I hear is already booked up, but there is a waiting list you could be put on. Otherwise, there are a couple of hotels up the hill (15 min.) in Searchlight. Â*One is called the El Rey, and I can't think of the other. Â*I don't have #s for either. Â*The campgrounds at CC are probably the best way to go for busy weekends like this. Â*A good idea is to rent a slip right when you get there (first come first serve) so you can leave your boat in the water. Â*They also have a nice RV park if you travel delux.
I hope all of this helps (everyone). Â*If you have ANY more questions, either ask on here, or send me a PM. Â*I'll talk with Greg and get an official agenda typed up with all of the necessary info. on it very soon. I think you're on the right track. I'll add a couple of things for us from Vegas.
We're planning on meeting up at the fiesta @ 7:30, I think that will give us enough time to drive to willow, launch, and get to cottonwood by 10 - correct RL, Keith, anyone???
Ms. LM1 and I may have to make it a day trip. We have a new addition to the family, a 9 wk old yellow lab and don't want her to be out in the heat all day. We're working on this, we may get someone to take her for the weekend.
Other than that, that's a great itinerary. As RL said, after the shoot, we're free to do whatever, but it would be fun to cruise to the dam, hang out, then maybe start a flotilla or something.

So, what time is a good time ot leave from Havasu if towing to Cottonwood? I want to be there by the 10 AM meeting time. And of course, I'll want to get directions by land from Havasu to cottonwood, which I think I got once before but can't seem to find them

Dreamin....
We are towing from Havasu to Laughlin late Thursday night, launching and playing around Katherines Landing on Friday. Then heading up the lake to Cottonwood Cove early on Saturday morning.
We should hook up on Saturday if you want to cruise rather then tow to Cottonwood Cove. I can be reached at 310-874-2732 and I can turn on the FRS to a channel, also have a marine radio. Or we could meet at the no-wake markers at Katherines Landing at 8:30 on Saturday morning.
Give me a shout if anyone wants to hook up, KC

HD, It's about 110 miles from Havasu to Cottonwood. Take 95 North to I-40 West, back to 95 North. At Searchlight, you'll see the sign to make a right (East) and go to Cottonwood.
LM1, Willow is about 1/2 hour from the Fiesta. If we figure about 1/2 hour to drop the boats, then that's 8:30. It's 30 miles or so to Cottonwood from Willow, so at the cruise pace, figure an hour. That should put us there right on time.

Thanks.

It's way deep, at least 5 miles North of Willow Beach. About 6 miles up, I started seeing bottom and decided to turn around. Granted the water is clear and I didn't stop to really look, but I could make out the bottom and assumed it was shallow.

rude, no need to worry about fuel. Like Greg said, Cottonwood has a fuel dock (and dry fuel) and both Willow and Katherine also have fuel docks (whichever dam we cruise to). Greg, I'm sure the dogs will be fine out there. They don't look THAT small. Just keep them in the shade and in the water as much as you can and let them drink A LOT of water. As far as where to stay....... if it is anything like this past weekend, it is going to be packed, then WE all get there!!!!!!!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I would recommend that everyone save your fuel in the boat from cruising around trying to find a vacant cove to camp in and save your money from hotels (that are all booked up anyway) and just stay in the campgrounds. There are plenty of spaces and you could all camp next to eachother, whereas in coves you would be seperate. Whatever you want to do.

we're really undecided on what to do also. we've already made arrangments to board our dogs for the entire weekend. i think we are just going to kind of "wing it" and see what happens. if we decide to stay we'll probably just sleep in the truck (we've got a snug top on the bed). when you guys are talkin' about a campground, is it at katherine's landing? do you have to pull your boats out and drive by land to it? see, here come the questions again!
RiverLife
07-19-2002, 11:06 PM
Laughlin is the same distance from Cottonwood as Vegas is, an hour. Â*If you guys left your house at 8: 00 am in Vegas, you'd be to the Cottonwood launch ramp by 9. Â* Lake Mojave has a lot of good coves to camp in, however, they were all gone last weekend so I suspect they will all be taken that weekend too. Â*If you want to camp, I suggest right when you get there to go down and rent a slip so you can leave your boat in the water and stay in the campgrounds which are walking distance to the entire marina (the marina isn't THAT big). Â*See the picture below for an idea on what the whole place looks like. Â*I think the campgrounds are like $13 a night, and a slip is $9 per day. Â*A lot better deal than Laughlin in my opinion. Â*They have showers and stuff too. There is another campgrond behind the trailer village.

Also, I don't have a cove for everyone to camp in, but I have a good spot picked out just off of a cove that has a submerged sandbar we could all tie up and anchor on. We may have to bribe a by-stander to let us use their house boat for about an hour so Hot Boat can take some shots from a semi-aerial view and so AG can shoot some video. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Shouldn't be a problem. Greg, didn't you say something about the photographer being a little late? the official itinerary will be posted as soon as I hear from the photographer, so I can verify the time. I don't want to be changing it back and forth. I'll email him now.

I've seen that owl cove place. There is a beach there, and rocks beyond that that are high enough for a picture.

Ok, 8:30 it is. I'll be leaving Havasu by 7, should only take me about an hour to tow up to Katherines.
I'm bringing my dog, and my dad and possibly a buddy of mine, does anyone think that will be a problem? The dog that is.

Yep, Keith knows what I'm talking about. I think a houseboat would be the easiest, but if we can't borrow one, there is a hill behind a cove right next to where I'm thinking of for the shoot. I just didn't want the photographer to have to climb any hill with all of his equipment in 120 degree heat. I was looking at a lot of the shots Hot Boat takes and almost all of them are from a semi aerial view and the boats are just all tied up together in a big clump. I think the spot in Owl Cove is good for that.

Great photo! With 27 some boats we are going to need a helo for the photo shoot.... Â*a DJ, a portable bar, a mini-mart, emergency crews.... Â* Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

we're bringing our oldest lab too, Jazz. so I don't think it's a problem to bring a dog HD. We always keep here on a leash though, the last thing I want is her jumping on someone's ride.
So Owl cove it is - awesome!

good point Keith, if everyone brings 2 it should cover it, but I'm planning on bringing 4.
Also, feel free to be patriotic, flags hats etc. I'm going to try to do something along these lines. Dusty, see if you can't get some of the harem to wear red white and blue thongs http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'll have a huge stock of shirts, hats and stickers with me. I wish I could give them away http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif but I still gotta recoup my investment.
Cash or check will be fine, 15$ each and 3$ for the stickers (the stickers are the new version, I need to get that one up on the shop).
I also have plenty of medium's and large's with the XL's (buy one for your kids, your dog, your neighbor http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

Greg, I left a message with a guy I met at the regatta in June about the photoshoot, he lives in Havasu. I have not yet heard back from him, but it's always good to get another Essex there! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
WOW, I got here a little late. So. Owl cove? I will be down at Cottonwood that morning. Can I follow RL or someone up there? I am testing a new labbed 4-blade and need a little direction. I know my way around Mohave very well, I just like to travel with folks.
What time on the ramp or marina?
Who else will be down
Greg, lets start a roll call thread of who will be where?
Can you mail me my shirts and hats? Let me know how much and I will bring the money with a few cold ones for the effort.
I am PUMPED now. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/insane.gif

Greg, I always carry 4 of the low profile bumpers. Everyone should be planning to buy two stickers for their boats if they don't already have them (come on, they're $5! ).
THOR, I know Greg, I, and a few others will be coming down from Willow Beach, and there are a few coming up from Catherines. I'll start a thread about who is coming from where...
Ouch, no offense Greg.
Keith, you the man.

Plans always change....for the better this time...looks like we'll be arriving in Laughlin late Thursday instead of Friday. Plan to go to Katherine Landing and getting a slip Friday morning. Geez, wish I'd had the forethought to get the annual pass for entrance to the recreation area. Dumb!!!
