The hoist in Redondo is near the Redondo Peir, they can lift boats up to 40'. Nearest hotel to the hoist is Crown Plaza Redondo Beach/Hermosa Beach - less than one block from the hoist. To get your boat into the water via the Boat Hoist, call Redondo Beach Marina at (310) 374-3481.

Redondo Beach as a long ways from Dana Point, like the opposite end of the world. Faster to go from Redondo to Avalon than to go from Redondo to Dana Point, almost twice the distance I'm guessing.

Anyways, I'm not certain if I will have my boat here in LA or at the storage bay in Havasu. Would love to go with or without my boat.

The only way I would try the hoist in Dana Point is if another Nordic 28 goes first - the Redondo hoist is WAY heavy duty.

I don't want to burst anybody's bubble, but I was talking with my Dad today about that weekend and he reminded me that there will be NO moorings available in Avalon that weekend. He said that droping in Descanso Bay (just outside Avalon Harbor) will be very crowded and crazy.

If we still would like to go to Catalina, my Dad will be at Emerald Bay with his Yacht Club. He said that we could side tie to his 48' trawler and party on his boat. The only problem is that we can only tie up two boats, one on each side. We might be able to anchor the rest just outside the cove.

I am open for anything....if going to Catalina looks to wild, I would be ok with just going up to Long Beach for lunch at the Yard House.

Seriously, my wife is petrified of the ocean for some reason. I will talk to her though. Oh shit I just remembered my nehpew rented a houseboat and a couple of those water and air poluting(sp) death trap pwc's at mead that weekend. We were supposed to go up to Don Pedro that weekend but my cousin backed out. Not sure where we will be on the lake that weekend but my boat is pretty easy to spot so anyone out feel free to stop and have a beer or two.

here is the deal for Dana Point Harbor hoist services as of 8/7/03



The phone number is (949)496-6177 The hoist will accommodate boats up to 25' in length. The hours of operation midweek are from 7:00am to 5:30pm........Weekends are from 5:00am to 6:30pm The price for one lift is 25$ and for in & out It's 35$, I hope this helps

Weekend slips will probably be in short supply for the holiday weekend. Check with harbor master. You can always anchor at the end of the harbor by the jetty and stay overnight.

yup, sounds about like yesterday. Â*minimal swells. Â*watch out though. the weather has been really really wierd - 2 weeks ago the fog was so thick you couldn't see ten feet in front of you until about noon. Â*Watch out for the shipping channels from 6 to 18 miles out. Â*Don't want to get stuck in the fog with those bastards! Â*

We saw 3 blue whales, a large school of porpoises, too many F'N sea lions (those bastards eat the fish, so the fish scatter), I damn near ran over a 6 ft. marlin - thing was beautiful! Â*We were trolling, he just didn't like our fake squid. Â*Too many moli moli's (giant super ugly fish that sit on the surface and only eat plankton and shit). Â*The red tide was also coming in in a big way in the afternoon - ugly shit!
