Thanks LM1, I would have if I was you. It rides so nice. We went out yesterday afternoon for a few hours and it was glass.Got her up to 70mph on the speedo with 5 people on board and no chop to help get it out of the water. When there is some chop it comes back in the water really soft (no more getting hit in the arm to slow down)(yet) I was reading the reveiw of the new 25' tempest in this months Hot Boat and I think they have the same bottom. The Gel coat on it is as nice as Iv'e ever seen. Everytime I go in the garage (yes i got it to fit) it gets even more pretty. I think we actually made a good choice for once.

Real nice boat. I think you made a good choice. I heard that they are a llot of boat for the money http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Yeah it comes stock with a ton of features other companies charge for as options. I keep looking for things they cheaped out on and about the only thing I can find is they upholstered the seats in the cuddy cabin with cloth rather than vinyl. It stays cooler though. And it didn't come with a ladder.

Since I haven't seen a Fury yet...do you have any overhead photos that show more than the profile? If it has the same bottom as the Tempest and it looks like it has a better looking top than the Tempest...it might be an alternative to the Howard Bullet or Hallett 260AC we're looking at.

How long is the boat and trailer combo...i.e. how big of a garage does one need? Did you get the swinging tongue on the trailer?

PM me your email address because I can't figure out how to post pics here and I will send you some pics. I have a 3 car garage, the boat fits kitty corner. The back of the boat is 8' wide but from the cutty cabin forward it gets narrow and with the swing away hitch it is 26' long. The outdrive fits in the corner when you angle it and that proably adds another 2 ft or so. It is a much nicer boat then the tempest. Mine was the boat they were building for their showroom and I am not sure whether or not they have another one under production or not. The Howard bullet is faster with the engine upgrade they offer but way more pricey and I am not real familar with the hallett but I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three. I paid right around $60,000 with the following uprades 1.496ho 2. 8' bimini(Comes with a 6'http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif 3. Gel coat upgrade. 4 Dual battery (comes stock with one). About the only other upgrades that are available are stereo upgrades. It comes stock with a alpine CD and 4 6"x9" alpine speakers. It sounds pretty decent and you can actually hear it up until around 50MPH.

Check your email.

The 26' overall length will fit my LHC garage just fine as I have 30' depth. The Howard and Hallett are in the $90K range with a 525 and I didn't question them on the 496HO to compare apples to apples.

Again...great looking boat!

I called Amy just now at Essex and she referred me to "Scott" at Laser. She did answer a lot of questions including whether or not the bottom of the boat is the same as the Tempest. Her answer was: "No, not the same at all." Steve and Ron own both companies but except for upholstry, they don't co-mingle the enterprises.

The bottoms of the two are not the same based on what was explained to me at the LA Boat Show.

Essex502

I want to get as big of a boat as will fit in the garage and 25/26 is about it. We won't be doing anything until AFTER the season but would like to come to a decision during the season.

What have you heard about Essex' new offering?

jrgaudettes
07-23-2003, 12:58 PM
Ron said in the near furture they will be making some new models. They are thinking of a 27ft V

Essex502
07-23-2003, 01:19 PM
27' might be a touch too big. I have 30' total and even with a swinging tongue 27' + outdrive + tongue = > 30?

ex cracker
07-23-2003, 01:33 PM
This piece of junk sony that takes disks doesn't take that good of pictures in tight quarters. you could sit 4 people in the mid cabin. No frills just 2 storage compartments and 2 upholstered couches. I need to go out and buy a quality camera when I get some time. I am working in Havasu for another month or so and comuting back and forth to Vegas every day so my spare time during the week is pretty slim. If the bottom is not the same on any of the essex's then explain why their other models look almost identicle? Laser does have their own molds though but you can't tell me they spend the time and money doing R&D and sell the Lasers so cheap. I would bet that if you flipped over all the similar sized models they are the same.

jrgaudettes

Thx for the info.

The bottoms on the Laser 25 Fury and the Essex 25 Tempest are not the same. The same holds true for the bottoms of the Laser 21 and the Essex 21. Please don't take that as a knock against the 25 Fury because I think it is a very nice looking quality boat.

As JR said, from what I understand Essex is planning on a new model probably in the 27 ft range that will be a V.

Essex502
07-23-2003, 04:29 PM
Well I don't know if I want to wait until the 2004 Boat Show to make a decision. We'll see!

yup, you're boat is BAD ASS!!! even your interior is sweet lookin'!! they did a great job on it. e502, i know mine is a tunnel and you're looking at v's but i would need 32ft of garage to put mine inside. i don't have a swing-away tongue on the trailer though.

Essex502
07-29-2003, 09:56 AM
We took measurements at the L.A. Boat Show of all of the boats we were interested in and all would fit if the trailer has a swinging tongue. We have 31 feet in one slot and 30 feet in the other. Diagonally (yuch) would provide even more.

Note...we visited the Canterbery Estates and the Refuge developments last week while in LHC and saw the 60' - 70' deep boat garages. Yeah, baby!

I agree with that but I didn't have much of a choice since there are waiting list at all the indoor storage facilities anywhere close to the house. I keep the old boat stored outside and double covered but the elements in Vegas really take their toll.
