Picked up the new 25' Laser Fury on Saturday and took her out on Sunday To put some hours on. Cruised from Hemming way to Temple bar and back with a stop at sandy in the morning. Man it is hard to stay under 4000 RPM for the break in period. She cruised at 60MPH at 3900 RPM and the ride was awsome. I left the camera at my job office in Havasu so no pics for this posting. The dealer recommends 15 to 20 hours of break in time on my 496HO. Is that much time really neccessary to seat chrome molly rings. On my old moneypit I was told 3 hrs was sufficient. That motor runs like a bat out of hell with only 3 hrs of veried rpm. Please Advise!

I know for a fact that BH didn't wait till 20 hrs to open his up! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif As long as you don't leave it at WOT for more than a minute or two you will be fine. It is the WOT passes for long periods that you want to aviod....very the rpms.
MP - What kind of exhaust do you have on yours? Is it thru transom above the water line? If so, you might want to look into the HP Silencers with the rest of us...see the "Loud Exhaust" thread in here.

Yeah it is thru transom above the water line and it is fairly loud. How much is the fine for a first time offense

Hey MP...you need to change your image at the bottom of your posts...I don't think you can display an image directly from an "A" drive.

I know that with late model Mercs the ECM can recall data with a laptop. This is so the mechanic can better diagnose problems. It will tell all types of info. Time at given RPM, total time at WOT, engine temp, oil pressure and the like. It has its advantages and disadvantages. If you are buying a used boat your dealer should be able to download the numbers and tell you if it has been run hard, or used with a little TLC. The downside, if you have a warranty claim you can bet they are gonna look to see if you got outside the bouys and nailed it till she came apart. I bet when KC had his warranty issue that they looked at the ECM data. By him doing what Merc said, they have no reason to dishonor the warranty. I would exercise some throttle hand disipline. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif I know it has to be hard, but hang in there. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif The hours will add up quick. Just my thoughts. Ken. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I wonder if the ECM stores ALL of the historical data or maybe the last xxx hours? Most autos store data in their ECM's as well but not all of the data. My old Pathfinder stored the data from the last 50 startups. Wonder if it's the same with Merc?

Not only did I get the evil eye Sunday, I got smacked upside the head http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif when I refused to slow down http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/insane.gif . I guess she wanted to test her distance swimming ability http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif That was a first and hopefully a last however.
