I don't have a lot of "tech tips" to pass on, but here's one thing I've learned.

When approaching the sand bar, make sure your drive is "UP" and even if you know it's up...check it again. Â*Here's a before/after photo of my prop. Â*This happened at idle....

Prop repair - $150
Prop shaft - $200
Labor - Fortunetely I do my own work
Special tool for prop shaft removal - $50
Skeg damage - still not completely fixed

Luckily, it was our last day at the lake and the weekend didn't get spoiled. Â*I just keep the rpms down and made it back to the ramp without any problems, but even only a slightly bend shaft will cause one hell of a vibration.

So, be careful around that sand bar, or anywhere for that matter....

WHere did you hit a rock. Just before the sandbar?

I hit one going into the Sandbar too, the drive was up and we were just idling. OUCH! I think it was about 350$ or something.

TM-Where did that happen? I have been to the Sandbar a couple dozen times at different spots around the bar and have never seen any rocks! Sorry...that blows!

Time to call Kevin over at R&R! Ouch.

Yeah, R&R prop shop they fixed the prop up, it looks good as new - hard to believe they can do that.

I think the rock was in the sand. Â*After the engine quit, I looked down and it was like 3 ft deep. Â*I thought the drive was up far enough, but it obviously wasn't...Oops

Lesson learned...

Even more impressive is that he can fix that prop for $150. Definitely a good reason to keep a spare prop. I always keep on with me. Has anyone ever had to use those rubber props?

Actually from that day forward, I started carrying a spare, which made that accident even more expensive, cause I had to buy another prop....

A rubber prop.....hmmmm, if your gonna buy a prop, buy a real one. How much do those cost anyway?

I got an almost new one(28 pitch Intimidator) from R&R for $325 - that's not too bad of a deal.....

I think MOW was talking about a composite one to have just for an emergency. Â*That way you can use it when you f*ck yours up at the sandbar to get back to the ramp. Â*Another nice part about them is they only cost like $50 or so...much cheaper than $325. Â*Glad you got it fixed and will be back on the water.

Thanks for clearing that one up Kevin...I know TM was thinking I gotta stay away from this jackass with his rubber parts! Yeah, they're just for emergencies, they're cheap, and light.

Pirahna says they're only good up to 280 hp...does that mean I can't put one behind my 502 even if I'm limping back to the ramp?

No, if you want to use them all the time then you are out of luck...but just to limp back to the ramp or marina they are good.

I knew MOW was just referring to a prop that would get you back to the ramp...

I seen from their advertisement they also have replaceable blades. That's kind of funny...you've got back-up blades for your back-up prop. So that way when your trying to limp back to the dock, if you hit a twig and break a blade on your composite prop you can fix it to. Now you've got 2 props to fix when you get home.

That's why I say, just buy a real prop...then you don't have to limp anywhere.... Well, unless you bend your prop shaft, like I did.

Hey, I've got an idea....We should just stay off the rocks......

I've got two kids and a couple of oars for the spare engine.
