Hi all,

STV Keith and I are doing the US Power Squadron boating safety course on Sat. this weekend - RL are you coming too?

Dave and I will be out on Sunday for sure - we're thinking about camping Saturday night. Anyone else going to be out or interested?

Just let me know where you will be on Sunday and I will be there.

Greg

I'll look for you guys at the Power Squadron meeting on Sat. Â*I've signed up with my son. Â*Was out on Mohave yesterday afternoon (Willow Beach) and the conditions were perfect. Â*No wind, nice water, 90 degrees, so we cruised to Katherine's and back. Â*Good number of boats already on the lake and many of the choice campsites already filling up. Â*Weekend should be great.

D2.

Someone posted over on www.hotboat.net that Mead and Powell were going to be closed this weekend due to the water levels?? Any truth to this?? I'll be in Havasu this weekend, but not unitl Sunday.

Everyone be safe out there this weekend. Not to be such a downer but, already have had a few fatalities in Parker and Havasu since last Sunday and it's not even the weekend yet. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I haven't heard the lakes were going to be closed, but I'll check it out.

This is as of yesterday, pierce ferry and government wash are closed, and

Hemenway Harbor

Four to five launch lanes are open for shallow launching in addition to four to five lanes that are open for deep water launching . The Hemenway fishing dock was moved out of mud and into deeper water.

LM1,
I am not understanding your post. Is Hemmenway closed? I heard it was still open.

FYI,
A buddy of mine went to Callville last weekend and waited over 2.5 hours to get his boat out.

I was planning on Hemmenway. Could you get back whenever you get a chance. Or call my cell 714 767-0600

Sorry, now that I look at the post I see how it could confuse you. Hemmenway is open for sure. I was cuttin and pastin on the post to get the info out and didn't realize how it looked. The lower two or three lines refer to hemmenway about the 4 or 5 lanes open etc.

See you on the lake!

By the way, did you get the Motorola radios?

Later

These are copied from Boatcops posts on www.hotboat.net

These are the facts as I know them as of this writing. San Bernardino is doing the investigation.
Boat left Road Runner at closing, south bound on the strip. Collided with the end of Bass Point, ejecting 2 occupants onto the rocks. Both died at the scene. We were called at approx. 1:40 AM. Divers were dispatched and in the water by 2:15, as there were sketchy reports that a third person may have been on board. Divers searched the bottom with no results. No evidence in the boat of a third person, and the angle of impact would have ejected anyone in the boat onto the rocks, as the 2 other victims. No one has reported anyone else missing.

Another night time accident with speed and (suspected) alcohol as the main factors.

When are people going to get the message? How many more need to die before boaters start bringing their brains to the River with them?

It's gone beyond tragedy. This is beginning to piss me off.

UPDATE:
3rd victim just recovered from the water at Bass Point. Brings the toatl from this collision to 3.

Add the 1 from Havasu last Sunday, and the 2 girls from the Blue Water area over spring break, that makes 6 in less than 2 months.

That's more than there's been in the last 5 years in this area.

And summer hasn't even started yet.

I have a feeling it's going to be a long one.

Thanks for the update HD. It's sad, very sad. Part of the reason I'm taking the safety course this weekend and encouraging others to do the same. What a tragedy.

LM1, where can I get one of those radios?

Also, does anyone have any GPS coordinates of the normal places? Sandy Beach, any low-water obstacles, etc?

BADFISH II

I have a gps, but don't have any coordinates. I tried to call Dave tonight but couldn't get through. We have room on the boat if you want to go Keith, just drop me a note. We may camp Sat. night though.

Gentlemen, I will try to find a good camping spot for you guys when you come out on Sat since I'm off tomorrow..haha. I'm thinking a good spot for camping will be south of Echo Bay just north of middle point. Just hug the shoreline and you can't miss the beach. Anyway, I'll call Greg tomorrow and let him know the conditions and potential camping areas.

I think when you come on Saturday evening it won't be that bad for launching.

Is any one going out on friday? I will try to be at Calville around ten. Hopefully it will not be bad on a friday to launch & pick up. I will leave the launch ramps to the rest of you guys for the rest of the weekend.
Keep your eyes open for the Cole.

Cole, Dave is out today.

Keith, you can get the radios at best buy or walmart or just about anywhere - you can even get super deals on them at ebay - or I'll sell you one of mine because I want the one that has a barometer and elevation on it.

Thor, The channel is 4 20 (because for some reason people can remember that one http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

See you on the lake!

Went out on Friday. Launched at ten from Calville with no line at all. Had a bunch of stuff to do at the house so left at 12:30, and again no lines. The ramp is 50% closed, and the other half is pretty rough, but at least we got to spend a little time on the water. Tried the radio with no response. Hope to go out in about 2 weeks, maybe will hook up then.

Hey Bill, we didn't get out until Sat. night when Dave and I camped - Dave was out Friday though but couldn't figure out how to work the radio I think http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

We went out of Callville too. I can't believe how low the water is - it's pretty depressing. Nonetheless, we had a great time.

Think you'll make the Powell trip?
