Can one of the Jetheads tell what the plate under the pump is and is it something worth having?

I believe that is a ride plate. I think that it is supposed to act like a trim tab or to smooth out the water where the thrust hits. Just guessing on that part. This is my first jet. Have had several outboards and in/outs.

That is a ride plate. In order to install one you have to take the intake out of your boat and have some machining done to it. To me its not worth the exspense unless you already have the motor out. GS in the jet tech section of hot boat mag swears by that upgrade though. That jet also has a droop snoot and a place diverter.
